Giving Up

# What does giving up mean to me?
The beginning of everything good in life often starts with a challenge. Ease is what we desire, but my life has not been easy. Everything feels hard. There was a time when my family desperately needed money for my university schooling. So, as a young man in my twenties, I decided to ride a tricycle to earn the funds. I thought I was making a lot of money. Every single day of that year, I earned thousands. I bought equipment and materials for school, I purchased food supplies, and I still had money left over.
Then, one day, I was involved in a terrible accident that almost cost me my leg. There was no ambulance! I screamed for help! "Somebody help!" I yelled. People heard me and lifted the tricycle off me. I thought I was going to lose my leg. Everything was burning. My nerves, my veins… I could literally not feel my leg. I placed my foot on the ground and saw that it was broken. Blood filled the floor! The pain was unlike anything I had ever experienced.
Someone asked, "Are you from around here?"
I said yes. Another asked for my parents' numbers, which I gave.
Ha! It was truly traumatic.
I'm crying even now as I remember it.
My dad was distraught when he heard, and my mom tried to calm him down.I must confess, I had never had such a brutal accident in my life.
I boarded a bike (the rider wouldn't even accept payment) and went to the hospital. There, I was given antibiotics. The female doctor was very caring. I asked her if my nerves were disconnected. She smiled and asked me to wiggle my toes, which I did. She stitched my wounds and put me on a drip. Thankfully, I didn't need a blood transfusion; I had enough blood.
My parents soon arrived at the hospital and saw my broken leg. My sister was just praying for me. I had started to say my last prayers, I had given up. My mom said, "What are you saying? You will live."
I had lost hope, but after six months, I recovered. It was painful. I had an external fixator because of the fear that the wound might affect the bone.
During that period, I almost gave up. My parents were the ones who gave me hope with their kind words.
Let me stop here for now…
If you want more, you can comment "continue," and I will give more details in my blog.
Thank you!
