As the year comes to an end, my family and I decided to visit Wat Phra Thong to make merit. The temple is not far from our home, so we left around 11:10 a.m., expecting a short drive. However, what should have been a quick 11-kilometer journey took about 30 minutes due to some traffic along the way. Phuket may be a small island, but its growing population, combined with the steady influx of tourists, has made traffic increasingly congested. We try to stay patient, but it’s still something we’re not entirely used to. 🚗🌴
When we arrived at the temple, we parked the car and headed straight to the main hall. Today, there was a steady stream of locals and tourists coming to pay their respects. Wat Phra Thong is one of the most famous and historic temples in Phuket, known for its sacred legend. At the heart of the temple is the revered golden Buddha statue, which mysteriously emerges halfway from the ground. After paying our respects to the golden Buddha statue, we took part in a sanghadana ceremony to make merit and bring blessings into our lives. This act of giving, especially at the start of a new year, is a meaningful tradition in our culture. We believe it helps ensure a smooth and obstacle-free path in life, bringing peace and prosperity throughout the year. 🙏🌟
After making merit and paying our respects, we took a leisurely walk around the temple grounds. Wat Phra Thong covers a large area, offering plenty to explore and admire. The weather was absolutely perfect, with clear blue skies that made the temple's surroundings even more beautiful. ☀️🌳✨
The temple also features a beautifully shaded garden, creating a peaceful and relaxing atmosphere. Scattered throughout the garden are colorful cartoon statues, which add a touch of playfulness to the space. What’s even more special is that many of these statues and trees are adorned with inspirational messages and moral teachings, offering wisdom and encouragement to visitors as they explore. 🌳🌟📖
Visiting Wat Phra Thong was a truly meaningful way to close out the year. From paying respects to the sacred golden Buddha statue to enjoying the serene garden and learning from the inspirational messages, every moment felt peaceful and enriching.
