Hello everyone

This morning, we woke up bright and early, quickly getting ready for a road trip to Phang Nga. Our destination? A local weekend market that only opens once a week—every Sunday! By 6:30 AM, we were all set and hit the road toward Lard Long Lae, a traditional market about 60 kilometers from home.

Since the market officially opens around 8:00 AM, we took our time driving, enjoying the peaceful morning atmosphere. By the time we arrived, it was just before 8:00 AM, and the market was already coming to life. Vendors were busy setting up their stalls, preparing to welcome the early shoppers looking for authentic local food and handmade goods.

One of the beautiful traditions at Lard Long Lae is the morning almsgiving ceremony. Many locals gather with steamed rice, food, and bottled water, waiting to offer them to the monks as they pass through the market. This meaningful Buddhist ritual reflects the community’s deep-rooted faith and the ongoing preservation of Thai culture and traditions.

The market was buzzing with energy, filled with local vendors and shoppers enjoying their morning. Lard Long Lae is a traditional community market uniquely set within a lush palm tree plantation, creating a cool and shaded atmosphere. Unlike typical markets, this natural setting makes it a comfortable and refreshing place to wander around, shop, and soak in the local culture.

Local artisans proudly display their handcrafted goods, showcasing the traditional craftsmanship of the region. Beautifully woven baskets and bags, made from locally sourced materials, are among the highlights. Each piece reflects the skill and dedication of the artisans, preserving the cultural heritage while supporting the local economy.

Most of the products sold here are homegrown and locally sourced, reflecting the self-sufficient lifestyle of the community. Fresh vegetables, fruits, eggs, and many other essentials are carefully harvested and brought to the market by local farmers. The selection is not only fresh and organic, but also a true representation of seasonal and traditional produce from the region.

One of the most unique food stalls here stays true to traditional cooking methods, preserving the authentic charm of the past. Instead of modern stoves, they use firewood to prepare their dishes, enhancing the flavors with a rich, smoky aroma. The freshly cooked food is kept warm in clay pots, adding to the rustic and nostalgic feel of the market experience.

We wandered around the market, taking in the lively atmosphere. As the morning went on, more and more people arrived, filling the market with chatter, laughter, and the delicious aroma of freshly cooked food. The later it got, the busier it became, showing just how popular Lard Long Lae is among both locals and visitors alike.

The market provides plenty of seating areas, allowing visitors to enjoy their meals right on site. Most of the food here is freshly prepared and ready to eat, making it easy to grab a dish and find a cozy spot to sit. With people chatting, sharing meals, and savoring delicious local flavors, the atmosphere feels lively, warm, and full of energy—just like a true community gathering.

As we continued exploring, we arrived at a fruit stall filled with a variety of fresh, colorful produce. I’ve always loved rose apples, so when I spotted a basket full of large, juicy ones, I couldn’t resist! I ended up buying a whole basket for just 120 baht, excited to enjoy their crisp and refreshing taste later.

After that, we picked up a variety of food, desserts, and drinks, ready to sit down and enjoy our meal. With so many delicious options to choose from, it was hard to decide! We finally made our selections and found a cozy spot to relax, soaking in the lively atmosphere of the market while indulging in our freshly bought treats.

We chose to sit by the water, as the market features a small, rectangular pond right in the center. The area is well-designed, with three sides covered by a roof, providing shade and a relaxing space for visitors to sit, unwind, and enjoy their meals. The gentle breeze and peaceful view made it the perfect spot to take a break from exploring.

Once we found the perfect table, we eagerly dug into the food we had picked up from various stalls. Each dish was bursting with authentic flavors, making every bite a delight. Sitting in this cozy spot, enjoying delicious local food while soaking in the lively market atmosphere, felt like the perfect way to spend the morning.

After finishing our meal, we noticed a designated waste separation area located just outside the market. Here, visitors are encouraged to properly dispose of their waste, with staff on hand to help sort and manage recyclables. This thoughtful system reflects the market’s commitment to eco-friendly practices, ensuring that waste is handled responsibly while keeping the environment clean.

*Visiting Lard Long Lae was such a refreshing experience. The combination of delicious local food, traditional handicrafts, and a welcoming community atmosphere made it more than just a market—it felt like a celebration of culture, sustainability, and togetherness.

I truly appreciated the market’s eco-friendly approach, from the use of natural materials for food packaging to the waste separation system that encourages responsible disposal. It’s inspiring to see a place that not only preserves local traditions but also cares for the environment.
