Have you ever seen such a flower? When viewed from afar, it appears to be thin petals blown away by the wind, but do not be fooled! This flower is hardy and can grow in dry, thirsty soil.

The unusual bits about paper flowers are that that thing we always think is a flower is not really at all a flower! It happens to be merely a colored leaf that does a wonderful job of creating a protective cover, called a bract. The real flower itself is quite small, usually white or pale yellow, hidden away in the centre. Nevertheless, it is precisely this colourful bract that renders paper flowers most attractive as ornamental plants.

What comes to mind when one finds his or her house or fence adorned with paper flowers is the touch of the exotic in tropical fashion, right? It happens that these plants, indeed, flourish in warm climates, thriving on minimal care. Give them sunlight and a little water now and then; they will do well enough. In fact, the more you prune them, the more blossoms you'll get!

But other than being beautiful and tough, paper flowers have a remarkable philosophy in them. This note highlights simplicity and resilience as concepts guiding us toward finding beauty. Life does not have to be so nice and pristine all the time; sometimes, the simple yet seemingly strong things stand tall.
