When it comes to the race to build the largest wall of the world. Chinese have their name in the Books. Fortunately i have been to all Top 3 Walls of the world.
These walls once were built to protect the city and its dwellers fromo imminent attacks from the other tribe. But now they offer a recluse to tourist to escape from their normal boring routine.
In one such incident i thought why not to discover the third largest wall ever built in the world.
Just so that you know the Second largest wall in the World is Wall of KumbhalGarh ( Which is in Udaipur, India)
Curious Case of Wall in Amer Fort
Primary function of this wall was to protect the city from intruders and military attacks. Amer ( city) on which the fort is named as Amer fort and English people dubbed it as Amber fort ( Due to amber color of sandstone use to built it) was a historic city and the famous fort was built in 1592 by the King man singh. Well this is more of a palace complex than the battle fort which you will see everywhere in the State of Rajasthan in India. The fort i will cover in a separate post if i get time to write about it.
The wall of fort runs into a 3 digit figure, though no one really knows how long it is, may be the historians know, but internet is silen about it .
The wall is equipped with watch towers and a stong vigil was maintained back in the days of Kings as Amer, was at brosroads of very important trade route

The Hike
To be able to do the hike, you need to reach to amer fort and go into the oppsite direction of fort i.e. othr side of road. Though there are many points which you can choose to climb on the wall.
but the ost famous spot is also kind of hidden from plain view of people.
when you climb it, you are in for a treat for a magnificant view of the fort and its structure.
The hike it self will take an hour, and you need to carry atleast 2 liters of water with you.
The stair is broken and each step is about 18 inch to 24 inch, hence its quite some excercise to climb up.
if you are cardio person, then this hike is for you. But the best part is when you reach at the top
So the picture of my hike begins
First top was the kae in front of Amer fort, at one time there was crocodiles to protect the foort from intruders coming in by swimming in the water. It is called Lake Mavatha, as it was filled with drinkable water. The source of its water was from the rain, whcih would fill it in moonsoons. You can see the Fort in the middle left as it is built on the hill.
A landscape in the middle of the hike, when you reach halfway, you are greeted by this landscape. You are in treat if you are going in there in July-August when everything is green and the clouds and nature is at its best. you can see the sprawling city ( now just a town) of Amer as well.
We started climbing about 5 Pm and sunset is about 6.30 so we had an amazing time to see sun setting behind the will of Amer fort. You can see the lake in front of fort in this pic as well.
A slighly better shot with my mate in it. It is hillarious how he would not let his helmet removed :P
It took us about 50 minutes to reach on the spot where we wanted to reach. From the sentry station on the wall you can see the expanse of the wall along the ridge of the hills.
The other side of the wall. thats east direction.
A melencholic shot from sentry station:
I spent around another hour over there sitting and watching sun go down. While coming down torch is needed as stairs are not normal in size and it get deserted pretty soon after sun set. All in all it was fun to hike up and enjoy sunset.
Till next time
