About Triund

Triund is a small hill station in the Kangra district in the state of Himachal Pradesh, India. Triund is a part of Dharamkot. Triund is at the foot of the Dhauladhar ranges and is at a height of 2,828 m. ( Cource : from Wikipedia)

triund is a popular Trekking destination for youth in india. In fact govt has to band camping on the main ridge because of the over exploitation of the resources there and the pollution and rubbish problem. The trek is about 20 kms in lenght and its difficult to remove rubbish. People who go there treat it as picnic. Hence all kind of trash being being generatedd which is creating a lot of problem.

Problem With triund

Its same like with anywhere which is popular in tourists. The sheer no of people visiting this place is putting undue pressure on local ecosystem. Triund top is a protected wildlife area. Hence the people visiting the place is a problem. The more the people, more the interference with wild life.
Second problem is area is prone to land slide. and the third problem is trash and fire.

The trek

Trek is a easy trek and it will take around 6 - 7 hours to complete the treak. t is fairly easy trek with starting givingg you some challenge and the end of trek giving you a fair amount of challenge. You have to climb by gripping the rocks. It is steep for last 1.5 kms for sure. But the view is worth it. Before 2019 you can go and camp on the top of the ridge. If you are fortunate to have a no moon night along with clear sky, the starts are right over your head. It is one real nice place to gaze stars.
Visit this place in summers to do star gazing. Temp in summers are comfortable 8 -9 degree celcius. But in winters this place can go to as low as -20.degree celcius

Things to remmember for this trek

Though this is a fairly easy trek, but i would still advise you to pack couple of layers, chocolates and ready energy bars, atleast 2 - 3liters of water depending upon the time of year. You should not smoke or drink while on trek. Intoxication does not work well on treks. If yuu are camping on your own. then get things certified for -15 degree celcius. you would need spikes on shoes in winters but a good treking shoes is all you need till from april to october end.
Trek starts from Dharamshala, you you reach dharamshala and from there reach Mcleod gunj, from Mcleod gunj there are taxis which take 100-200 rs and drop you to start of the trek. There are many tour conpanies which are selling this tour for 7000 to 8000 but if you do solo you can do it under 3000 and if you are having all equipment then all you need is a permit and some clear land.
