Von Bautzen aus führte unsere Route weiter nach Plauen im sächsischen Vogtland. Die Stadt ist vor allem für ihre Plauener Spitze bekannt, doch ihre Geschichte ist weitaus komplexer. Einst Residenz der Vögte von Plauen, später ein wichtiges Zentrum der Textilindustrie, wurde sie im Zweiten Weltkrieg stark zerstört. Doch Plauen hat sich immer wieder neu erfunden - vor allem als eine der ersten Städte der ehemaligen DDR, in der 1989 die friedliche Revolution begann, die schließlich zum Fall der Berliner Mauer führte und den Weg zur deutschen Wiedervereinigung ebnete. Heute schlägt die Stadt ein neues Kapitel auf – als Hochschulstandort, der Studierende aus verschiedenen Regionen anzieht und mit moderner Bildung die Zukunft prägt.
From Bautzen, our route continued to Plauen in the Vogtland region of Saxony. The town is best known for its Plauen lace, but its history is far more complex. Once the residence of the Bailiffs of Plauen, later an important center of the textile industry, it suffered massive destruction during the Second World War. But Plauen has reinvented itself time and again - especially as one of the first cities in the former GDR, where the peaceful revolution began in 1989, which ultimately led to the fall of the Berlin Wall and paved the way for German reunification. Today, the city is opening a new chapter - as a university location that attracts students from different regions and shapes the future with modern education.

Plauen spielte eine entscheidende Rolle in der friedlichen Revolution von 1989. 1 Am 7. Oktober - einen Monat vor dem Fall der Mauer - gingen hier 15.000 -20.000 Menschen auf die Straße, um gegen das DDR-Regime zu protestieren. Es war die erste Großdemonstration dieser Art, und obwohl der Staat hart reagierte, ließ sich die Bewegung nicht mehr aufhalten. Heute erinnern Gedenktafeln und eine beeindruckende Skulptur an diesen mutigen Schritt in die Freiheit. Bei einem Spaziergang durch die Stadt spürten wir, wie sehr dieser Tag Plauen geprägt hat - ein bewegender Moment.
Plauen played a decisive role in the peaceful revolution of 1989. 1 15,000 - 20,000 people took to the streets here on October 7 - one month before the fall of the Wall - to protest against the GDR regime. It was the first large demonstration of its kind, and although the state reacted harshly, the movement could no longer be stopped. Today, memorial plaques and an impressive sculpture commemorate this courageous step towards freedom. Walking through the city, we felt how much this day shaped Plauen - a moving moment.

Das beeindruckende Alte Rathaus steht im Herzen der Altstadt. Seine Ursprünge gehen auf das 16. Jahrhundert zurück, und die prächtige Renaissance-Fassade ist ein besonderer Blickfang. Ein echter Blickfang ist die verschnörkelte astronomische Uhr am Giebel - ein faszinierendes Stück Stadtgeschichte, das uns einen Moment innehalten ließ.
The impressive Old Town Hall stands right in the heart of the old town. Its origins date back to the 16th century, and the magnificent Renaissance façade is particularly eye-catching. The ornate astronomical clock on the gable is a real eye-catcher - a fascinating piece of the city's history that made us pause for a moment.

Nur einen Steinwurf vom Alten Rathaus entfernt liegt das Malzhaus, ein weiteres historisches Gebäude mit ganz eigenem Charme. Früher wurde es als Lagerhaus für Malz genutzt, heute ist es ein Kulturzentrum mit wechselnden Ausstellungen und Veranstaltungen. Das Besondere am Malzhaus ist jedoch der wunderbare Blick über die Stadt, den man von hier aus genießen kann - perfekt für ein paar ruhige Momente und tolle Fotos.
Just a stone's throw away from the Old Town Hall is the Malzhaus, another historic building with its own unique charm. Formerly used as a warehouse for malt, it is now a cultural center with changing exhibitions and events. What makes the Malzhaus so special, however, is the wonderful view over the city that you can enjoy from here - perfect for a few quiet moments and great photos.

Bei unserem Spaziergang durch die Altstadt haben wir uns die Zeit genommen, die charmanten Ecken der Stadt einzufangen. Die alten Gassen, die historischen Fassaden und die grünen Plätze luden uns ein, einfach nur zu bummeln und die Atmosphäre zu genießen. Unterwegs habe ich mehrere Fotos gemacht, die die Seele der Stadt widerspiegeln. Einige dieser Fotos habe ich zu einer Fotomontage zusammengestellt - eine visuelle Erinnerung an den ganz besonderen Charme Plauens.
During our walk through the old town, we took the time to capture the charming corners of the city. The old alleyways, the historic facades and the green squares invited us to simply stroll around and enjoy the atmosphere. I took several pictures along the way that reflect the soul of the city. I put some of these photos together in a photomontage - a visual reminder of Plauen's very special charm.

Das Schloss der Vögte mit seinem markanten 16-eckigen roten Turm ist eines der eindrucksvollsten Gebäude in Plauen. Ursprünglich im 13. Jahrhundert erbaut, wurde die Burg während des Zweiten Weltkriegs zerstört, der Turm blieb jedoch als Symbol der Geschichte erhalten. Heute beherbergt der Schlossberg den Campus der Staatlichen Studienakademie Plauen, die seit dem 1. Januar 2025 Teil der neu gegründeten Dualen Hochschule Sachsen (DHSN) ist. 2 Es ist faszinierend zu sehen, wie hier Tradition und moderne Bildung zusammenkommen.
The castle of the reeves with its striking 16-sided red tower is one of the most impressive buildings in Plauen. Originally built in the 13th century, the castle was destroyed during the Second World War, but the tower was preserved as a symbol of history. Today, the castle hill is home to the campus of the Plauen State Academy of Studies, which has been part of the newly founded Saxony Cooperative State University (DHSN) since January 1, 2025. 2 It is fascinating to see how tradition and modern education come together here.

Nach so vielen Eindrücken zog es uns in das Restaurant Heinrichs im alten Rathaus. Der stilvolle Gewölbekeller im Inneren verströmte ein tolles Flair, aber das schöne Wetter lockte uns nach draußen. Im angrenzenden Biergarten fanden wir ein schönes Plätzchen mit einem herrlichen Blick auf die historische Umgebung. In entspannter Atmosphäre genossen wir mit Liebe zubereitete regionale Spezialitäten - ein perfekter kulinarischer Abschluss unseres Plauen-Besuchs.
After so many impressions, we were drawn to the Heinrichs restaurant in the old town hall. The stylish vaulted cellar inside exuded a great flair, but the beautiful weather lured us outside. In the adjoining beer garden, we found a lovely spot with a wonderful view of the historic surroundings. We enjoyed regional specialties prepared with love in a relaxed atmosphere - a perfect culinary end to our visit to Plauen.

Plauener Spitze - eine Tradition zum Bestaunen

Obwohl wir uns nicht näher mit ihr befasst haben, verdient die Plauener Spitze dennoch eine Erwähnung. Sie ist nicht nur kunstvoll gefertigt, sondern auch ein Stück lebendige Tradition. Die filigranen Muster und die handwerkliche Präzision zeugen von einer jahrhundertealten Kunst, die man in Plauen auf vielfältige Weise bewundern kann - sei es durch handgefertigte Kunstwerke oder bei einem Besuch in den Werkstätten. Diese Kunst ist weit über die Region hinaus bekannt und bleibt ein beeindruckendes Erbe der Stadt.
Although we have not taken a closer look at it, Plauen lace still deserves a mention. It is not only artistically crafted, but also a piece of living tradition. The filigree patterns and precision craftsmanship bear witness to a centuries-old art that can be admired in Plauen in many different ways - be it through handmade works of art or during a visit to the workshops. This fine art is known far beyond the region and remains an impressive legacy of the city.

Plauen ist weit mehr als nur ein Zwischenstopp – die Stadt erzählt eine Geschichte von Blüte, Zerstörung und Neuanfang. Von den Vögten über die Textilindustrie bis hin zur friedlichen Revolution hat sie immer wieder Wandel erlebt und sich neu erfunden. Heute verbindet Plauen sein historisches Erbe mit moderner Bildung und einem lebendigen Stadtbild. Die Mischung aus architektonischen Schätzen, der idyllischen Lage an der Elster und der neuen Dynamik als Hochschulstadt machen sie zu einem spannenden Reiseziel. Wer das Vogtland besucht, sollte sich die Gelegenheit nicht entgehen lassen, Plauen selbst zu entdecken.
Plauen is much more than just a stopover - the city tells a story of prosperity, destruction and new beginnings. From the reeves to the textile industry to the peaceful revolution, it has experienced change and reinvented itself time and again. Today, Plauen combines its historical heritage with modern education and a vibrant cityscape. The mix of architectural treasures, its scenic location along the Elster River, and its new dynamism as a university of applied sciences make it an exciting travel destination. Anyone visiting the Vogtland should not miss the opportunity to discover Plauen for themselves.

... ist ein gebührenpflichtiger Stellplatz für 12 Wohnmobile, der ganzjährig genutzt werden kann und großzügige, gepflasterte und weitgehend ebene Stellplätze bietet. Die Altstadt ist nur wenige Gehminuten entfernt und eine Haltestelle der öffentlichen Verkehrsmittel befindet sich in der Nähe. Zur Ausstattung gehören Stromanschlüsse und Frischwasserversorgung, die mit einer Prepaid-Karte genutzt werden können. Die Prepaid-Karte für Strom und Frischwasser kann am Parkautomaten gekauft und aufgeladen werden. Soweit ich mich erinnere gelesen zu haben, kann nicht verbrauchtes Guthaben wieder ausgezahlt werden. Entsorgungsmöglichkeiten für Grau- und Schwarzwasser sind vorhanden. Nach dem Bezahlen am Parkautomaten erhält man einen Barcode für die kostenlose Nutzung der Toiletten. Der Wohnmobilstellplatz ist durch seine zentrale Lage ein idealer Ausgangspunkt für die Erkundung der Plauener Altstadt. Zwischen dem Stellplatz und der Elster befindet sich ein Skatepark und ein kleines Restaurant. In der Umgebung gibt es außerdem ausgeschilderte Rad- und Wanderwege.
... is a paid parking space for 12 motorhomes, which can be used all year round and offers spacious, paved and largely flat pitches. The old town is only a few minutes' walk away and there is a public transport stop nearby. Facilities include electricity connections and fresh water supply, which can be used with a prepaid card. The prepaid card for electricity and fresh water can be purchased and topped up at the parking machine. As far as I remember reading, unused credit can be paid out again. Disposal facilities for gray and black water are available. After paying at the parking machine, you receive a barcode for free use of the toilets. Thanks to its central location, the motorhome parking area is an ideal starting point for exploring Plauen's old town. There is a skate park and a small restaurant between the pitch and the river Elster. There are also signposted cycling and hiking trails in the surrounding area.
