I am quite a big fan of Robert Downey Jr. He might be most known for his role as Iron Man, but my personal favorite was him playing the role of Sherlock Holmes in the Guy Ritchie movies.
But, he cannot remain Iron Man forever, and a few years ago, the movie Dolittle was released in theaters all across the world. I didn't really care much, and my wife hates when animals can speak, so we didn't even consider watching it in the cinema.
But, now we have some older kids who were interested in the movie, so why not give it a chance?
This is about the Dolittle movie from 2020, not the Dolittle movie from ages ago.
Dolittle - out to save the queen!
Dolittle is a bit depressed after losing his wife. But, one day he is approached by someone who wants him to save the queen of England (who has been poisoned). Dr. Dolittle is well capable of talking with animals, and thus he quickly finds out what poisoned the queen, and what is needed to heal her.
He starts his quest to find the healing potion, but he is hunted down by an envious guy who has always wanted to "be bigger" than Dolittle. Will Dolittle be able to save the queen? And will he find out what really happened and who poisoned the queen?
Not much action - just enough for kids!
I didn't really find this movie to be very amusing. It was easy to predict, and it didn't come with a lot of highlights. So, for someone getting near to the 40s, this is simply boring.
Before we started to watch it, I had read that it was for kids aged 11 or more, but then one place it said 7 or more. I was a bit hesitant showing it to my kids, but to be honest, this was way easier to watch and less brutal than most other kids movies and TV series available to seven years or older. In other words, I have no problem recommending this to parents with kids aged 7 or older. It isn't scary, and it isn't much violence and so. An episode of Looney Tunes is way more brutal than this!
I'd rather watch Iron Man or Sherlock Holmes
As I have already said, I found the movie to be quite boring, and I would much rather watch Sherlock Holmes or Iron Man. It also feels as if Robert Downey Jr. didn't really live up to his potential in this movie.
My score: 5/10
Take a look at the trailer above if you want to know more about the movie.
Ps: The trailer looks way better than the movie itself... the music at the start of the trailer makes it sound magical and look magical. But it truly isn't that magical!
Have you seen Dr. Dolittle? How did you like it? I would love to hear from you!
Oh my God... I liked this Junior fellow from the time I was 16 long ago when he was featured in that "I want love but its impossible song"
THen I forgot about him, expect he came in Alley Mcbeal and then he had some life problems related to drugs stuff.
And then what a comeback in that Iron Man 1...and sherlock holmes yup I love that movie completely and wuite a fan of this guy, especially knowing that he has become an actor getting over his drug problems after getting a loving wife I guess.
THis trailer says the movie is for kids man...too many animated dancing unrealistic animals but kids will love it!!
And you know what I subscibed to netflix and regreted it until I got a season full of sherlock holmes of Benedict Cumberbatch
Its too good!! every episode is brilliant, funny and I like this holmes too...
and something was famiar with the watson actor her until I found out why, that Martin Freeman fellow is the Hobbit fellow from the Hobbit movies, which is a brilliant watch by the way, fit for kids though you know a little danger is there, lot of danger actually.
And I am just wanting to make time to see that sherlock holves series.
I know they are dramas and movie charactors but you like them a lot...
anyway. Has you kids watched the jungle book, that is brilliant... I loved it as a adult, lovely forests...and songs and animal charators, and plot too...anyway.
The Jungle Book is quite good, the original Disney version. And then you have a Netflix original version and some more, but I somehow didn't fall in love with those completely!
But, what I did fall in love with was the Sherlock series from BBC with Benedict Cumberbatch. They are so brilliant, and since every episode is like a full evening movie, they are just fantastic! Somehow, I feel as if they turned a bit less interesting in the last season, I still consider them to be awesome :) Just like I loved the two Sherlock Holmes movies with Robert Downey Jr. :)
Enjoy Sherlock - you have some awesome hours ahead!
You know before I saw these modern sherlock holmes... I watched Jeremy Brett sherlock holmes... its brilliant as well...more like classic related to the book stories.
The benedict version holmes is modern adaption and very different...and the Robert Junior ones are brilliant as well...different essence, I am fan of Jeremy and Robert and love to watch all 3 sherlock holmes.
I suggest you check out the Jeremy brett version of holmes too...
The movie was good, a gorilla with insecurity issues 😄
Of course, it had its elements... but all in all, quite lousy to me! :)
Very good your contribution, really, I was going to see this movie only for Robert Downey Jr. and now that I read your review I realize the mistake I was going to make. By the way, the most likely thing is that you don't remember me, but I was part of CultureGeek, at least in the movie reviews, when I was posting on steemit. Glad to see you here, I think I'll start posting in this community.
I do remember CultureGeek, always had very nice looking reviews and great content! :)
Watching Dolittle wouldn't have to be a mistake, especially not if you have kids, but if not - then it might be! :) You could give it a chance though..
