This is awesome! I love to dance but yes, hip hop is very challenging, and I've never even tried break dancing. So lots of admiration to all of you for pulling it off. And good for you for following your dreams instead of taking the conventional route!
Thanks! I'm so glad I had the courage to do what I did. Some may call it a lack of ambition. But I feel if you lay out your entire life plans at 17-18 years of age, that's lack or ambition because you're not exploring what's out there and what you are capable of doing.
I still remember one instance when my Dad introduced me to someone around 10 years ago. When the guy asked me what I did for a living and I told him that I was a dancer, he said "Never mind"🤣
Lol! And yes, that's an accurate perspective for sure. People who pursue traditional careers, especially ones that require lots of school like a doctor or a lawyer, are generally applauded by society, while artists and people who have more entrepreneurial ambitions are dismissed. But it is incredibly challenging to make it as an artist and an entrepreneur (not to mention risky) and thus takes a ton of ambition!
I think people are getting more adventurous or bolder now compared to a decade ago. But you're right about society. In alot of countries they are a bit more accepting but still biased that way. Problem is financial Institutions would quicker give a banker a mortgage than a artist even if they earned the same. This is what pushes artists and people working unconventional jobs to go for conventional careers. I ended up doing that too😕
Oh, for sure. My parents' friends—a musician and an artist—had trouble getting residency in Costa Rica because of the nature of their work, even though they were both very successful and had done well for themselves.
