It was finally Halloween night! Serafina was so happy! Tonight was the one night she could go outside really late, ask for free candy from people, and dress up as something really fun and spooky!
This year, Serafina was dressed up as a black crow. She had on a slick black dress, a fake pointy beak. She grabbed the big crow's wings by the door, and slipped the straps onto her shoulders. There, now she had the cows wings on her back!
“Aw, don’t you look cute,” Momma said to her daughter.
Serafina smiled. “I’m just waitin’ for Serimi to come downstairs. Serimi’s going to be a white snowy owl, so we’re opposites!”
Serimi, Serafina’s twin sister, had claimed she always wanted to match costumes with Serafina when they were old enough to trick or treat. They would talk about about being Venus and Mars, the fire and ice princesses, a cat and a dog, anything they could possibly be as long as they could be it together.
Serafina could hear Serimi’s feet stomping down the stairs. Her heart raced. Finally, it was time to go outside! Finally, they could celebrate Halloween together-
“I’m going as a piece of chocolate! Don’t I look pretty Momma?”
Serimi had come downstairs with a sandwich board over a white shirt and dark brown skirt. The sandwich board had a big picture of chocolate covering the front and back of it.
“I thought we were going as a crow and a snowy owl!” Serafina told her sister.
“Oh, I cancelled that like, years ago!” Serimi’s eyebrows and forehead wrinkled up as she looked at her sister.
“She chose to change costumes to match her friends from school, since they’re all going as parts of a S’more,” Momma explained.
“Oh,” Serahfina said in a low voice.
A knock on the door was heard.
“Momma! Momma! That’s my friends!” Serimi ran to the door, pushing Serafina out of the way.
“Calm down,” Momma said after Serimi as she too walked past Serafina.
Three girls stood at the door. One was dressed as a fat and fluffy marshmallow, and two were graham crackers.
“TRICK OR TREAT!” They yelled so loud Serafina’s ears hurt.
“Oh, nice costume girls,” Momma praised them as she dropped pieces of chocolate in their bags.
A wave of thanks was said in return from the girls, and one of the gram cracker girls said “Come on Serimi!” and they all began to run off.
Serafina looked on at them sadly.
“Have a good time,” Momma said to her, dropping the last piece of chocolate into Serafina’s bag.
Serafina smiled. “I will Momma!”
And off she went, to start her first Halloween night!

Por fin era la noche de Halloween! Serafina estaba tan feliz! Esta noche fue la única noche en la que pudo salir muy tarde, pedir dulces gratis a la gente y disfrazarse de algo realmente divertido y espeluznante.
Este año, Serafina se disfrazó de cuervo negro. Llevaba puesto un vestido negro liso, un falso pico puntiagudo. Agarró las alas del gran cuervo por la puerta y se puso las correas sobre los hombros. Allí, ahora tenía las alas de las vacas en la espalda!
"Ay, no te ves linda", le dijo mamá a su hija.
Serafina sonrió. "Solo estoy esperando que Serimi baje las escaleras. Serimi va a ser un búho blanco como la nieve, ¡así que somos opuestos!”
Serimi, la hermana gemela de Serafina, había afirmado que siempre quiso combinar los disfraces con Serafina cuando tenían la edad suficiente para engañar o tratar. Hablaban de ser Venus y Marte, las princesas de fuego y hielo, un gato y un perro, cualquier cosa que pudieran ser mientras pudieran estar juntos.
Serafina oyó los pies de Serimi pisotear las escaleras. Su corazón se aceleró. Por fin, llegó el momento de salir a la calle. Finalmente, pudieron celebrar Halloween juntos-
"¡Voy como un trozo de chocolate! ¿No me veo bonita mamá?”
Serimi había bajado las escaleras con una tabla de sándwich sobre una camisa blanca y una falda marrón oscuro. El tablero de sándwich tenía una gran imagen de chocolate que cubría la parte delantera y trasera.
"¡Pensé que íbamos como un cuervo y un búho nevado!"Serafina se lo dijo a su hermana.
"¡Oh, cancelé eso hace años!"Las cejas y la frente de Serimi se arrugaron al mirar a su hermana.
"Ella eligió cambiarse de vestuario para que coincida con sus amigos de la escuela, ya que todos van como partes de un S'more", explicó mamá.
"Oh," dijo Serahfina en voz baja.
Se oyó un golpe en la puerta.
"¡Mamá! ¡Mamá! ¡Son mis amigos!"Serimi corrió hacia la puerta, empujando a Serafina fuera del camino.
"Cálmate", dijo mamá después de Serimi, mientras ella también pasaba junto a Serafina.
Tres chicas se pararon en la puerta. Uno estaba vestido como un malvavisco gordo y esponjoso, y dos eran galletas Graham.
"TRUCO O TRATO!"Gritaron tan fuerte que a Serafina le dolían los oídos.
"Oh, bonitas chicas disfrazadas", las elogió mamá mientras dejaba caer trozos de chocolate en sus bolsas.
Se dijo una ola de agradecimiento a cambio de las chicas, y una de las chicas de gram cracker dijo: "¡Vamos Serimi!"y todos comenzaron a correr.
Serafina los miró con tristeza.
"Que lo pases bien", le dijo mamá, dejando caer el último trozo de chocolate en la bolsa de Serafina.
Serafina sonrió. "Voy a mamá!”
Y se fue, para comenzar su primera noche de Halloween!
