As part of my onboarding process, my mentor @jaydr has given me an assignment to share my thoughts on the things I must look out for before I join any community on Hive.
This is an attempt to be a good student. Lol.
I must say @jaydr is a good teacher.
The importance of mentorship cannot be overemphasized in any area of life.
Thank you once again @jaydr
Back to my assignment,
I believe communities are created to foster relationships and the success of every community is hinged on the understanding of shared value amongst it's members.

Each community should be an avenue for learning, re-learning and unlearning as the case may be.
Here are 5 things I would like to look out for before joining any community on Hive.
1. What does the community Offer.
In my short time here on Hive platform, I've seen several communities with different interests.
In order to fit into any community, I believe I must check if the community fits into my interest or passion too.
If football is not my interest, I would be doing myself a great disservice to join a football community, because I won't be able to contribute to it.
Except I would just be a spectator to cheer others on. And like I said earlier, every community thrives on shared value, so that wouldn't work.
It is best to join communities that aligns with your interests, passion and what you enjoy.
2. How Active is the community?
This is very important because, if a community is dormant, your posts in the community may also end up being dormant, not receiving the right engagement it requires.
Here are some ways to know if a community is dormant
• check when the most recent post was made.
If the last post was made 3 months ago, you may be joining a dormant community.
• how frequently do the members of the communities post? Do they post once in 6 months, weekly, or daily.
This should inform your decision too.
3. How many people are in the community
This does not necessarily matter much though.
If 20 people are in a community and all 20 people are actively posting and engaging, such a community could be more beneficial that 400 members with only 2 active posters.
You get the idea right?

4. How much rewards are being generated by the community.
Check the posts you see on the community, are they well rewarded?
If they are sparingly rewarded, then you may need to reconsider your choices 😂 lol.
The reason why this is important is because you cannot double post or spam.
Hence it's better to post in more rewarding communities for better yield of rewards.
This is one of the perks of the hive platform because you get to see how much reward each post generates.
In my short time here, I've learnt one or two things about posts and their rewards too.

5. Finally, what are you bringing to the table?
What can you add to the community?
For instance, Medhive is a medical related community and it only makes sense to join the community because I have the medical knowledge and skill to add value to the community.
So dear fellow Newbie, before you join communities on the hive platform, do well to check if the community ticks all the boxes of the 5 things I mentioned here.
Thank you Medhive, thank you @jaydr once again for this opportunity to share.
Good you have someone helping you. In the beginning things can be a lot to learn. 👍🏻
Very true. Thanks a lot
