"Annual income twenty pounds, annual expenditure nineteen nineteen and six, result happiness. Annual income twenty pounds, annual expenditure twenty pounds ought and six, result misery."

Note: In "old money" 1 pound = 20 shillings. 1 shilling = 12 pence. So an annual expenditure of "nineteen nineteen and six" leaves you with an annual surplus of sixpence after expenses if your income is 20 pounds.
