"There is no greatness where there is no simplicity..." - Tolstoy
Something I have screamed about for years in the crypto space is....We need to keep things simple!
This isn't the most user friendly environment around and if we want mass adoption, simplicity on a user side of things needs to be priority #1!
Let me take a step back....
I'm currently reading this book:
I'm about 50 pages into it so far, but the general idea behind it is...Long form posts, 2 hour podcasts, 1500 word emails, or having to 'learn' Metamask...Just doesn't translate into mass adoption.
In today's day and age, people want things....Super quick, in bite sized chunks and do not want to require a PHd in computer science to learn how to use an app. Made me think about Hive....
We celebrate the 1000 word posts, and ignore most short form content. This translates into less adoption on a larger scale.
We do have the EASIEST blockchain to learn, and while we can be better....We're still light years ahead of other chains.
It's almost like....
The solution to a lot of our problems not only on Hive but crypto in general when it comes to Web 3 is right there in front of us.
Short form content (apps like @liketu) NEED to be supported by the community. Even if you don't like pictures of people's apple pies or cats on Saturday, embrace the project and what it can bring to the blockchain. More users....
And keep working on making it a crazy simple as possible to get people to USE these applications. Easier onboarding is always a good thing but I can speak from experience....
Using Hive Keychain compared to that God awful MetaMask, is brilliant! Usernames instead of strings of wallet addresses is putting a more human touch on crypto. Again, this space isn't the easiest for people to learn so if we put more emphasis on the human elements here, we have a winning formula.
Anywho....
Just some thoughts on a Monday night! By no means is this gospel, but I can't help but think...We are SO close! Mass adoption by keeping things simple and to the point will help us in the future.
We have the best apps. We have the best community. Now we just need those green candles and that comes from more users!

This is so true. Our squirrel brains love the short attention span economy that is being promoted right now. Generations now live on their phones and love short form for filling in the free moments of their day. Bathroom, riding the bus/train, on a work break. Even YouTube has had to embrace the facts of short form or suffer the consequences.
Oh man....I see the length of some of these videos for example, I wont tune in...I mean there is a time and place for it all, but keeping things simple and to the point is a great plan.

Couldn't agree more, because average users will still find onboarding complicated and confusing. Mass adopted applications are still working towards making their apps user friendlier, so same should go for this platform.
Furthermore, I have a harder time choosing a 1000 letter post, because I would like to use that time to read more content and engage more, instead of that one person.
I think the issue for the length of posts is that, short form isn't really celebrated or embraced here. That is how we get more eye balls to the project, opening things up for short form content.
!CTP
Precisely. That's what people are used to and same goes for me.
Making things simple is the easiest way to onboard users so I completely agree with you. I also prefer Hive keychain over Metamask.

Like night and day, I can't stand everything about Ethereum lol

Without a doubt you are right keeping things simple is essential to improve. But I fear that society is not going in that direction. Hopefully here at Hive we can swim against the tide.

If we focus on the user experience, things will work out!

With the short attention span humans have, only keeping it simple will we be able to understand things. That's why short form contents are always trending and on the rise, it's just way easier to both write it and read it.
Yup, we have the attention span of goldfish lol

I think large credit of Hive's current growth is splinterlands and Leofinance. I feel that more people are knowing about Hive through these two projects. I wish we could have more projects which would bring flow of people here. I guess on that note more projects here the better. Soon Hive won't be just another crypto but something that people are transacting for real world projects. Small steps to that point.. :)
Yeah I agree...Another couple of Splinterlands or LEO projects on here and we'd be golden!

Simplifying is always harder than complicating. That's why many people take the easy way out. But the future is in simplicity. Beauty is in simplicity. People are where it's clear...
So true. We will play with words to make ourselves sound smarter than we are...But keeping it simple is the real challenge.

Very true! 💪🙌🙌🙌
Here a simple comment.
ha ha ha ha ha great stuff man!!

A longer one:
May I remind you about the HiveAuth proposal? Your support renewal would be more than welcome.
Thank you!

I'm always amazed how things in the crypto world are made over complicated. Unfortunately, it's still a world reserved to people who are not scared of learning new things...
And if we wanna grow, we need to cater to the every day person. But alas....lol

I've always been a fan of reducing/removing friction in any onboarding process. There's a whole lot of unnecessary crap that gets added as part of the "Complexity Bias" mentioned by the first commentor.
Example: If you're sending out a tweet inviting people to join Hive, don't forget to add the join link instead of making them hunt around for it. Let's show them the ease and simplicity, along with the power inherent in Hive.

Great point. Super simple things like that would go a long way to help get people here!

I totally agree with you. Brevity and simplicity are key factors in these days and age. There are so many things to do and so little time. Every site on the net is fighting for your eyeballs. You just don't have time to waste on anything that doesn't catches your attention in the first 20 seconds. Have something to say - keep it short and simple.
Curators here have to redefine their 'quality post' if they want mass adoption.
100% agree! And most of us have the attention span of goldfish, so if people don't 'get it' quickly, they may never stick around to dive deeper.
!CTP
I 100% agree with this.
On a completely different topic but in the same mindset, I discovered that I was working with a company whose Health and Safety management systems update and evolve every year. BUT what they were doing was adding more and more signed paperwork and more and more folders and sections into their online file system. More things instead of making the existing things better or more performance orientated.
I found out that there is something called "Complexity Bias" where people tend to believe that something that is more complicated must be better. We are talking about a system upgrade, software or hardware engineering, and any number of other things.
And yet over-complex systems and long learning curves for users definitely DO steer people away from coming aboard.
Additional to preventing someone from onboarding, is actually retaining the people you onboard which statistically seems to be even harder. Currently, there seem to be over 2.4 MILLION registered Redfish accounts on Hive of which there are currently only 22,000-odd of those who are active Redfish.
Again, as you say, simplicity and user-friendliness would be key to keeping them as opposed to complication.
We could gamify the experience for all those new members, a model like Torum used to have....Encourage to engage, follow and comment...And then slowly unlock features of their accounts as they progress...
wallet keys, permissions, etc....Ease them into the chain and they will gain confidence as they learn the ropes!
!CTP
Not a bad idea.
With my own onboarding "school" I make things simple. Read about account creation and keeping your keys safe, OK now create your account.
Now go make 10 comments on posts.
Now read about introduction posts and see some examples. Now write your own.
Etc
But, people have the ability to jump the gun and do stuff they aren't ready for. Having a front end that unlocks as you check off items would be the best training ground for strong bloggers.

Quality of words counts. I believe F. Scott Fitzgerald's publisher said 10 of his words were worth 100 of someone else's. Often a novelist's best work is his/her shortest. !BBH
@jongolson! Your Content Is Awesome so I just sent 1 $BBH (Bitcoin Backed Hive) to your account on behalf of @fiberfrau. (1/5)
Keep chipping away at complexity, @jongolson! Sooner rather than later the message will be heard loud and clear! And we will see the necessary improvements in the user experience to facilitate mass adoption!
