I'll begin with an apology for the length of this entry. I just felt in was necessary to have the history in order to understand where I am now.
My story starts over 30 years ago. Not too long after I got married in 1987, I started looking for ways to become unemployable. I began with Network Marketing, but I was never really good at recruiting, so after several years working with multiple different companies, I decided that I was tired of throwing my money away. Then I took my hunt online. I found a couple of multi-level programs I though looked good and began marketing through Traffic Exchanges and Viral Mailers. Even though I didn't have to personally cold call people, I still was unsuccessful at recruiting, so, once again, I dropped the multi-level programs, but I continued with marketing my TEs and Mailers and got involved with downline builders. Once again, after working with this system a bit, I could not find interested people to recruit (are you starting to see a pattern here?). At that point, I vowed never to get involved with another company that required I build a downline in order to make money.
About that time, I decided to switch gears and try to make a business out of something I loved to do. That is when I started looking into building a Family History business. My vision was to take a predeminately data driven industry (genealogy - names, dates, and places) and focus on the stories behind the data. I had started collecting stories from my grandparents as a hobby before I ever got married. And while I enjoyed the genealogical research, I enjoyed the stories even more. So when my patience ran out on finding a business, I thought, just maybe, I could create one that would not seem like work to me. That was about 10 years ago. Since then I have been working on formulating a business plan, finding my niche, and defining my ideal customer. I have been studying things like how to build a membership community and marketing on the Internet. All the while, I have been looking at various ways to take advantage of the Family History industry. I even went so far as to get a degree in Video Production so that I could produce top quality, documentary style family history videos.
All this time, I have been working in the Information Technology area in various capacities. Then I went through a series of events and found myself out of work (through no fault of my own). That is when I went to get my Video Production degree. Once I had receive my diploma, I needed to make a living while I was working on creating my business, so I started working for a corporate Audio/Visual company that produced large conventions. But, as you can imagine, when the pandemic hit, our business dried up completely. That is when I came back to the Internet to see if I could find a way to make money from home.
This is also when I first got involved with crypto. I know I didn't want to do anything that had to do with recruiting, so I started out with faucets and started using traffic exchanges again to promote them. But after a couple of month of earning pennies, I decided that was not going to provide the kind of money I was looking for. When I had been involved in traffic exchanges before, I had joined a few programs that were still being promoted on the traffic exchanges these several years later, so I began checking to see if any of my accounts were still there. One of these companies was Click Track Profit. My account still worked, but I later found out that the ownership had realigned and they had taken a new direction...into crypto.
Since I had started collecting a bit of crypto in my faucets, this intrigued me, so I dove in deeper. This is where I was introduced to the HIVE blockchain and all that entails. Since then, my plan for my Family History business is starting to come together on HIVE, as well. I have also gotten involved in the whole blockchain gaming scene and building/curating content around that. My other crypto focus is investing the crypto I have earned in dividend-bearing tokens to multiply my income exponentially.
For now, my crypto income is not a part of my daily budget. This is strickly my retirement plan. Through all of my job changes and periods of unemployment, I have had to deplete my 401k several times. At my current age, I will not be able to build up enough to live comfortably after I quit working. So, for me, this is my freedom. I will work until it can supports me, so the faster I build it, the sooner I can retire.
Garrey, you definitely have a future in the "story-telling business" :) I like the way you wrote this comment and your content in general... I had similar tryouts in the "network marketing" niche, even with Amway and MLM programs before the Internet boom, and like you, I didn't have that persistence in recruiting people... I could teach people about something, explaining stuff, but somehow, I have always failed on the "sales part" of the job...
Maybe that's why I like HIVE the most... As we don't have to sell anything, just present the awesome platform, and the rest is on "them"... If someone joins, great... If not, no problems as I don't depend on that 1 person... I will just continue my journey where I will find other people to engage, motivate and grow together...
Thanks for sharing your story!

Thank you for your encouragement. I agree that it is much easier to deal with other people by offering to help them and then leaving it up to them. One of the big sayings in the Amway circles was, "Some will, some won't, so what". We can only do what we can do and it is silly to lose sleep over trying to convice someone else to do what is good for them. I think that is part of the problem. We try to "sell" to people rather than just help them out.
I think what I like most about HIVE is that by helping others, we help ourselves. It's a whole lot more fun doing good for others. As you said, it's about growing together.
