A few weekends ago I visited a friend of mine who lives in Brussels and I left with some friends. It was a full weekend, very intense, because we made the most of every second to visit as much as possible in Belgium.
In this first part, I am happy to share with you a selection of shots of Ghent, the city we visited on the first day and which I would also like to tell you a little about... enjoy the reading!
Ghent ~ Gent ~ Ghent ~ Gaunt
Ghent is located not far from Brussels, about an hour by train, to the north. We were very lucky: here you see pure and true visions for the Dutch who are used to living their charming towns in the rain or in the typical Flanders fog...
In the cathedral of Ghent, St. Bavo, typically Gothic, we got very surprised thanks to an exhibition housed inside the church, towards the apse area. Basically it was an exhibition that clearly intended to emphasize the contrast between the sacred and the profane; what shocked us a bit (and this depends on the fact that in a Catholic Church, as we are used to in Italy, nothing of this kind could ever be exposed) is that there is often a very strong counter-opposition between these two concepts. In the photos below, you will understand what I mean...
After the initial shocking moment given by the exhibition in the cathedral, we continued our tour to the wonderful Ghent which, at every spot, really took our breath away, thanks to its soft light and bright colors of the buildings.
If you want to try the real taste of Ghent, I recommend you stroll through the center and make a short stop at Chocolaterie Van Hoorebeke , located just behind the cathedral, in the square. It really could be the best chocolate you will taste in Belgium. In addition, they let you create your own paper bag with everything you want: there you'll find chocolates of all kinds, from the most classic ones, such as dark, gianduia, milk chocolate, to the most particular ones, such as spicy chocolates and fruity. Try and believe!
Another must-do thing is the walk along the canal: the colors of the buildings, the flowers and the smiles of the tourists will invade your soul and you will not be able to feel lighter and at peace with the world. Truly like being in the Candy Land.
The day in Ghent was complete only after a good typical meal in a brasserie and a couple of Belgian beers at the pub... For another Belgian episode? A little patience and I'll be back here with a new post about another beautiful Belgian town... stay tuned!

Qualche weekend fa sono stata a trovare una mia amica che vive a Bruxelles e sono partita con qualche amico. E' stato un weekend pieno, intensissimo, perché abbiamo sfruttato al massimo ogni secondo per visitare il più possibile in Belgio.
In questa prima parte, sono felice di condividere con voi una selezione di scatti di Ghent, la città che abbiamo visitato il primo giorno e di cui vorrei anche parlarvi un po'... buona lettura!

Ghent si trova non lontano da Bruxelles, circa un'oretta di treno, verso nord. Siamo stati molto fortunati: qui vedete delle pure e vere visioni per gli olandesi che sono abituati a vivere le proprie incantevoli cittadine sotto la pioggia o tra la nebbia tipica delle Fiandre...
Nella cattedrale di Ghent, San Bavone, tipicamente gotica, ci ha sorpresi grazie ad una mostra che ospitava al sua interno, verso l'area dell'abside. Fondamentalmente era una mostra che, palesemente, intendeva enfatizzare il contrasto tra sacro e profano; ciò che ci ha un po' "scioccati" (e questo dipende dal fatto che in una Chiesa Cattolica, per come siamo abituati in Italia, nulla del genere potrebbe mai essere esposto) è che c'è spesso una controppasizione fortissima tra questi due concetti. Nelle foto che posto qui sotto, capirete cosa intendo dire...
Passato il momento di shock iniziale dato dalla mostra nella cattedrale, abbiamo proseguito il nostro tour per la meravigliosa Ghent che, in ogni punto, ci lasciava veramente senza fiato, grazie alla sua luce morbida e ai colori accesi degli edifici.
Se volete assaggiare il sapore vero di Ghent, vi consiglio di passeggiare per il centro e fare una breve sosta alla Chocolaterie Van Hoorebeke, che si trova proprio dietro la cattedrale, nella piazza. Potrebbe davvero essere la cioccolata migliore che assaggerete in Belgio. Inoltre, vi fanno creare il vostro sacchetto di carta con tutto ciò che volete: trovere cioccolatini di ogni tipo, da quelli più classici, come il fondente, il gianduia, il cioccolato al latte, fino a quelli più particolari, come le cioccolate speziate e fruttate. Provare per credere!
Un'altra cosa impossibile da mancare è la passeggiata lungo il canale: i colori dei palazzi, dei fiori e i sorrisi dei turisti vi invaderanno l'anima e non potrete sentirvi più leggeri e in pace con il mondo. Veramente come stare nel Paese dei Balocchi.
La giornata a Ghent era completa solo dopo un buon pasto tipico in una brasserie e un paio di birre belga al pub... Per un'altra puntata belga? Un po' di pazienza e tornerò qui con un nuovo post riguardo un'altra bellissima cittadina belga... stay tuned!
