Yesterday I created a blog about an initiative to improve comments on photography blogs. A lot of photography blogs don't get a lot of comments. And if they do get comments they usually don't contain much feedback.
To my surprise the blog received quite a lot of reactions from other photographers, mainly because @victorbz added a constructive comment in which he mentioned a lot of photographers on Hive.
Many of them have contributed to the discussion in the comments.
We unanimously agree that there is still a lot of room for improvement for photographers on Hive.
And there also were some good ideas for improvement.
I think that if we want a change, we need to work together as Hive photographers.
Together we might be able to create a change...
I've added all the ones that added a comment on my first post below because I think they might be interested in joining.
@tikotiko
@x-rain
@cryptoreforma
@careassaktart
@abelfotografia
@acidyo
@castleberry
@coloneljethro
@nanixxx
How to go from here?
I think the comment section isn't the best place to continue this discussion, so I've created a special Discord channel for it. Feel free to join if you want to join the discussion. It doesn't matter if you're a professional photographer or an amateur. As long as you want to make Hive a better place for photographers you're welcome.
If you don't have Discord or don't want to join the channel you can still add your comments under this blog.
If you know any other photographer that might be interested; feel free to share the link, mention him/her or reblog this post so it will get more attention.

It's just the natural state of things. People have limited time and mental resources. We can change it if we post more thought-provoking photography posts and if we bring more people on Hive. To do so, we, as Hivers, should be more active on web2 and more active with offline activities (for example, a Hive exhibition at the next Hivefest which I suggested previously).
Thank you for the invite, joined the Discord channel.
True, but A comment doesn't have to take long. And it can be very useful for photographers.
I think your initiative was a long time coming from somebody and Victor struck a nerve in a good way to be able to address some of the issues that Hive has in general but also as it relates to the vision and artistry that goes into 'Photography' and not just 'picture taking'! Thanks for this opportunity and for the care and concern to improve things all around or to initiate some positive practices that will be driven by our photographers on Hive leading by example. Cheers to everyone that actually cares!
edit: OH yeah... feel free to cross post this into the Photography Lovers Community if you like!!!
Leading by example. That's indeed what we need to do.
Can I do a cross post there? I thought the PL community was very strict.
No, i am Photography Lovers and i am strict about low quality single image posts but overall.... most of the guidelines are in order for folks to get my OCD curation. I don't curate single image posts or crossposts... but they are welcome to be posted into the community. I make an exception for very high quality single images from pros and crossposts from Tattood Jays Wednesday's Walk posts. Please do crosspost!
oh @castleberry, i'm so sorry for my regular posts of theme "the endless power of a single image" to the community. Personally i do prefer to publish photography by series of images, documenting or helping each to other to tell a story. But as well, I firmly believe in the power of the single image, telling the whole short or long story just with one point of view. I know that these image don't get OCD curation and mostly get very low numbers of votes, but they get the same numbers of comments as the long posts with a lot of images, not always complementing each other. now i'm in the hard dilemma :))))
Don't worry! I make an exception for your single shots to feature in the HotShots curations. There are only a few people that post high quality single images and you are one of them. You don't always just post singles either. Some folks try to just post one image with no text or context and do it frequently enough with low effort it's clear they are just posting for rewards. Plus, you do engage in comments as well.... so there's no dilemma and I do agree that art and photography done well only need a single image to tell a story. No worries my friend. Stay safe and keep up the great work (with your head held high)!
Huge thank you for the kind words and your understanding.
Hugs !!
I ment doing a crosspost of this blog as you suggested :)
I hardly do crossposts.
You can crosspost anything photo-related into the PL community anytime! You have my full blessing.
That is very helpful for the cause of @friendlymoose! welcomed and bravo!
