Is it red, though, or is it just crimson? Where do the semantics of language and the science of colour collide? I don't really know, but most people would say the dress is dark red.
This part of the shoot with Holly was us, again; driving around for a location to shoot. We found a paddock with what looked like a shearing shed from ... some time in the past, no gates.
We pulled in and were met with a wonderful selection of texture, broken glass, rust, and rotting timber. Perfect for a nice dress to be ruined, as was our plan.
However; we forgot to bring scissors (or a knife), so we progressively ruined this dress with hazardous bits of broken glass we found on the floor of the structure.
These images are not in sequential order, unless of course, you have the assumption that time flows in reverse and fabric can mend itself .
The dress was picked up from a second hand store so many years ago, and finally, we had the opportunity to use it (and destroy it).
The lighting I used is a bit harsh, given the day was sunny, and we were only partly undercover. I need to be more comfortable to be "darker" in my exposure and let more natural light seep through.
I was keen on firing a flash up through the timber slats from below, but a quick survey of the land below the raised platform suggested it wasn't a particularly hospitable place to go and try such things, so I didn't.
Thanks to having my location history turned on, I can always go back in time in my calendar / maps activity and trace our way back to this place in the world, which has rather a lot of potential based on its texture and character.
The only bad thing about such a location is that it was very likely private property, and if the land owner was around or didn't consent to such activities as photography (or perhaps they're a dress maker and would hate to see us ruin a garment) - I can't say for sure what would happen.
In any case, we got away with it, and we got away with these images.
We had a lot of fun ripping up the dress, and I think dresses should be made to be destroyed, or decay rapidly over time, if only to remind us of our own mortality.
Nothing lasts forever, and that's something that i hope to explore more in my future photographic adventures. I hope you'll be along for the journey, as it certainly won't last forever for anybody.
As usual, images shot on my various Nikon mirrorless bodies with various mirrorless lenses, and lit by a combo of sunlight and my trusty Godox Ad200 lights, which I absolutely love.
They're the perfect light.
The dress was ripped for photography and the dress is still very stylish. Professional work
Thank you! I've got a lot more photography to post, as it is a long time since I am active on a regular basis on HIVE!
The underlighting would have been pretty cool but not if it was going to be too hazardous XD
At least over here you're not likely to get shotgunned right? >_>
More likely to catch some disease from the pigeon / sheep / other creature shit that blanketed the ground below the structure. It was about a metre and a bit up high!
Sorry second sentence was to do with being discovered if you had wandered onto private property ^_^; Though the various excrement doesn't sound terribly appealing either.
I understood the meaning, but perhaps wasn't very articulate in my reply. I am knee deep right now into setting up a linux environment for my daily use. I've had enough of windows if I'm not gaming (for titles that don't work using proton) or photoshopping :D
I'm getting the same with MacOS (Windows has been an absolute non-option no matter what for decades, given the choice between being "forced" to use Windows because the thing can't or won't support/be on anything else I will drop the thing). Eventually going to replace my iPhone with a Pinephone Pro and my Macbook Air with a Framework 13.
Can't really say much about gaming (way too many of them are massive security flaws), the image editing stuff on linux doesn't do it for you?
At least I can now say that I can competently use all three major operating systems day to day. I've been using Linux on my home server(s) for quite some time now, but never as a desktop platform.
The Steam deck has opened my eyes to Linux gaming and made it incredibly viable. While that's based on Arch, I opted to use Linux Mint for my day to day.
I still will require a Windows install for Photoshop and Light Room... as I have 2 years pre-paid for my photoshop licence and I'm not keen to relinquish the workflows I have for my photography at this stage. Captive audience. I'll of course explore other options on linux in time, but I would also like to see what my iPad as a stand alone device can do for image editing.
I had a play with ProCreate on the ipad the other day, and it made me love drawing again. If there's an image editing app on ipad that can handle large raw files, layers, and does automatic masking as good as light room - that isn't light room :P I'll have very little need to boot into Windows again.
So yeah, I'm at a cross roads. A stupidly powerful gaming PC, a m2 macbook air, and an ipad pro. I've also got an android phone, so I'm a mixture of all operating systems and devices at the moment.
Not the worst flex XD
How have you gone on Ubuntu-based distros? All mine kept blowing up every time I did a dist-upgrade :S
Steam goes pretty good on linux, my daughter was using Fedora on her desktop for a while and everything was fine til she decided she wanted to play Roblox with her friends again and now she's got windows because Roblox's "anti-cheat" system is a massive security flaw.
Can totally understand not wanting to relinquish workflows, it's pretty inconvenient and why I have been so incredibly slow to switch all the way over (one of my favourite things about the Apple system is the interoperability, KDE is getting there, I'll find out how far along it is when I've replaced the two smaller devices x_x)
