I finally got my dream lens!

in Photography4 days ago

I finally upgraded to my dream lens. What it is? Why of course, its the Nikon Nikkor Z 85mm f/1.2 (and it is enormous!) This lens represents a significant upgrade to my old f/1.8 variant of the lens, but comes at a price difference that is eye watering. For the price of one f/1.2 85mm from Nikon, you could purchase about four f/1.8 lenses! Yikes!

This was my first time using the 85 f/1.8, I haven't used the 1.2 yet, but hopefully, soon!

Reason One: Uniqueness

I don’t know how many of these lenses there are floating about in Adelaide, but I’ve never seen one in the flesh (or should I say… plastic and metal) – and I’m very proud that after many years of not making money in photography, I’ve got a deeper hole to dig myself out of with this new lens.

Will it be worth it? I’ll find out when I am able to organise a shoot to test the lens, even if it will most likely be a Time for Print shoot.

Reason Two: Destroy Backgrounds

Why did I buy the Nikon Nikon Nikkor Z 85mm f/1.2 if I had a perfectly good, incredibly wonderful f/1.8 at the same focal length? Well, I want more sharpness, and I want more creative opportunity to absolutely obliterate backgrounds, particularly for my portrait and wedding work.

Reason Three: Never need to upgrade again

One thing is for certain, this is a “lens for life”. It represents to me, the pinnacle of what can achieved at the 85mm focal lens on my chosen camera system.

Reason Four: Robust Z Mount Camera System

I’ve currently got this lens on my original Z6, which sadly isn’t available for purchase anymore, but it has rough equivalence with the Z5, Z6iii, or Zf camera bodies from Nikon. There's plenty of bodies (most of them out of my price range) that I'd love to throw the lens onto, but only time will tell as to how long my existing bodies will last.

Reason Five: Unmatched Image Quality

This lens delivers outstanding image quality, producing sharp, vibrant photos that truly capture the essence of every scene. Whether it’s a portrait or a wedding, the 85mm focal length compliments the human form well, and is an easy working distance.

Now the only problem is finding someone to use this lens on. I've got a few things tentatively booked over the summer break and into the new year, but if I had it my way, I'd be photographing people every second week!

Sort:

Yay for dream lenses! Maybe less yay about the eye watering costs x_x but worth it? :D

I'll find out one day when I finally use it. :D For the interim, its out of the box, in a Pelican case, and has a lens filter on it. I have a wedding to photograph in March, and I'm trying to organise some things over the summer break. :D

So far, no absolutely locked in dates.

Me: [always interested in gear, looks up Pelican cases]

Oh my gosh O_O

Is it a specific use kinda camera lens or just not the type that you want to go gallivanting off to random locations for a play?

Good luck organising, hope you get as many things as you want :D

This lens is very expensive and produces beautiful photos. Buying it will save you the hassle of buying lenses later.
