[ENG-SPN] A memory of Cuenca / Un recuerdo de Cuenca

Cuenca is another of those historic cities, where beyond the famous hanging houses, whose artisan framework looks with vertigo at the cliffs at whose foot the Júcar river slides with eternal slowness, it can be said that it still has a rich heritage history, whose origins are lost in the twists and turns of a medieval history full of heroic vicissitudes.

From its imposing cathedral, in which there are many who observe the trace of those mysterious Knights Templar who fought bravely at the front of the Christian armies that conquered the city, to the unfortunate ruins of small Romanesque churches, such as that of Saint Pantaleon, currently home to a social club, the cultural spectacle, seen from any latitude, is supremely striking.

Also striking are its excellent wine cellars, which are home to some remarkable wines, which, as every traveller and pilgrim knows well, together with the excellence of its bread, help, and how!, to continue on the journey.

Cuenca es otra de esas ciudades históricas, donde más allá de las famosas casas colgantes, cuyo artesanal entramado mira con vértigo las escarpaduras a cuyo pie se desliza con eterna parsimonia el río Júcar, puede decirse que tiene todavía una rica historia patrimonial, cuyos orígenes se pierden en los vericuetos de una historia medieval repleta de heroicas vicisitudes.

Desde su imponente catedral, en la cual no son pocos los que observan la huella de aquellos misteriosos caballeros templarios que combatieron bravamente al frente de los ejércitos cristianos que conquistaron la ciudad, hasta las desgraciadas ruinas de pequeñas iglesias románicas, como la de San Pantaleón, en la actualidad, albergue de un club social, el espectáculo cultural, visto desde cualquier latitud, es soberanamente llamativo.

Como llamativas son, además, sus excelentes bodegas, valedoras de unos notables caldos, que, como conoce bien todo viajero y peregrino, unidos a la excelencia de su pan, ayudan, ¡y cómo!, a continuar haciendo camino.
