It is true that, unfortunately, one can hardly admire, in all its splendor, this set of precious sacred geometry, which for centuries, could have been, without a doubt, one of the most brilliant examples of Franciscan architecture on this side of the metaphorical pack animal of legends, which is a land, that of Soria, which was always distinguished for being that ineffable border of the Duero, where Christians and Muslims settled their differences and where, it is appropriate to say, they also shared wisdom and knowledge.
The proof of this is precisely in its location: right on the road to exile of Rodrigo Díaz de Vivar, the Cid Campeador, halfway between two important cultural landmarks, such as Berlanga de Duero and Casillas de Berlanga, in whose area, solitary among mountains and moors, a jewel that sums up the best of both spiritual concepts still shines, despite its shameful plundering, such as, undoubtedly, the enigmatic hermitage of San Baudelio.
As if that were not enough, these ancient stones, now completely ruined, are also located on that same mysterious and legendary road, which, heading further towards places like Caltójar and Bordecorex, almost on the border with the lands of Guadalajara, was the route that, according to an ancient tradition, saw the passage and burial, in some place not yet discovered, of that great Muslim leader, known by the name of 'the scourge of God', for his raids and military campaigns, which posterity has always remembered with the name of Almanzor.
Cierto es, que, por desgracia, apenas se puede admirar, en todo su esplendor, ese conjunto de preciosa geometría sacra, que durante siglos, pudo haber sido, sin lugar a dudas, uno de lo más brillantes ejemplos de la arquitectura franciscana en este lado de la metafórica acémila de leyendas, que es una tierra, la de Soria, que siempre se distinguió por ser esa inefable frontera del Duero, en la que cristianos y musulmanes dirimieron sus diferencias y en la que, oportuno es decirlo, también compartieron sabiduría y conocimiento.
La prueba de ello la tenemos, precisamente, en su situación: en pleno camino del destierro de Rodrigo Díaz de Vivar, el Cid Campeador, a media distancia de dos importantes hitos culturales, como son Berlanga de Duero y Casillas de Berlanga, en cuyo término, solitaria entre montes y parameras, todavía brilla, a pesar de su vergonzoso expolio, una joya que resume lo mejor de ambas concepciones espirituales, como es, indudablemente, la enigmática ermita de San Baudelio.
Por si fuera poco, estas milenarias piedras, hoy día completamente arruinadas, están también situadas en ese mismo camino, misterioso y legendario, que, dirigiéndose más allá, hacia lugares como Caltójar y Bordecorex, casi en los límites con las tierras de Guadalajara, fue la ruta, que, según asevera una antigua tradición, vio pasar y enterrar, en algún lugar todavía no descubierto, a aquel gran caudillo musulmán, conocido con el nombre de ‘el azote de Dios’, por sus razzias y campañas militares, que la posteridad ha recordado siempre con el nombre de Almanzor.

Lo siento por quien no sepa apreciarlo, pero, en mi caso, me siento tremendamente feliz de poder recorrerlo, sobre todo, cuando, huyendo de las grandes ciudades, te pierdes por estos maravillosos y enigmáticos entornos rurales, que es, en realidad, donde descubres no sólo cosas sorprendentes, sino gentes más sorprendentes todavía, que te ayudan a crecer y a apreciar este verdadero legado.
