Recently, the prestigious magazine National Geographic released a news item that may surprise many people, but certainly not me: it recognises a treasure in a formidable 13th century Romanesque church, located in a town in Guadalajara called Carabias, that unfortunately no one visits. It is the church of Saint Salvator.

It is hard to believe, on the other hand, that this town, whose census does not even reach twenty inhabitants today, has, and is also in a surprising state of conservation, such an imposing and disconcerting temple, which curiously has a porticoed gallery that extends on all four sides, a detail that also makes it a heritage element that is almost unique in its kind.

However, despite the reforms carried out during the 17th century, when the stonemasons of that time seemed to have lost touch with the extraordinary geometric knowledge of their Romanesque and Gothic predecessors, which offered relevance and functionality to their constructions, they blinded some of the sections of the porticoed gallery, which, although it takes away from its brilliance and harmony, the contemplation of the whole, however, invites contemplation and, by the way, admiration.
