Its beginnings were Celtiberian. Like the rest of the Iberian Peninsula, it also experienced the passage of the Roman imperial legions and adopted their customs. When Rome fell and a few centuries later, so did the arrogant Visigoths, he witnessed the fluttering of the Muslim banners, which fluttered in the wind from the top of watchtowers and castles, when it became one of the main cities of the so-called frontier. Duero, which separated the Christian kingdoms to the north, from Spain to the south, governed by the powerful Caliphate of Córdoba.
Today, that old city that began by being called Uxama and then Osma, became, in the Middle Ages, once the Moors were evicted, the Burgo de Osma, preserving, however, much of its former splendor, its people inheriting the ancient multicultural charisma that always characterized her. For this reason, it is now one of those pleasant cities to visit and the welcoming welcome of its inhabitants constitutes, at present, a highly appreciated destination for visitors of various kinds and conditions.
Sus inicios fueron celtíberos. Como el resto de la Península Ibérica, conoció también el paso de las legiones imperiales romanas y adoptó sus costumbres. Cuando Roma cayó y pocos siglos después, también lo hicieron los soberbios visigodos, asistió al flamear de los estandartes musulmanes, que ondeaban al viento en lo alto de torres y castillos de vigilancia, cuando se convirtió en una de las principales urbes de la denominada frontera del Duero, que separaba los reinos cristianos del norte, de la España del sur, gobernada desde el poderoso Califato de Córdoba.
Hoy, aquella vieja ciudad que comenzó llamándose Uxama y luego Osma, pasó a convertirse, en la Edad Media, una vez desalojada la morisma, en el Burgo de Osma, conservando, no obstante, buena parte de su antiguo esplendor, heredando sus gentes el antiguo carisma multicultural que siempre la caracterizó. Por eso, ahora es una de esas ciudades agradables de visitar y el acogedor recibimiento de sus habitantes constituye, en la actualidad, un destino muy apreciado por visitantes de diversa índole y condición.
