The same curious phenomenon occurs with some ‘enchanted cities’ in Spain as with two well-known rivers in Galicia, where one has the fame and the other provides the water. Without reaching, however, that level of probable exaggeration and assuming from the beginning that comparisons, as well as being useful, can also be odious, the ‘enchanted city’ of Cuenca may turn out to be, by extension, more spectacular, after all, than the ‘enchanted city’ of Tamajón.
I am not aware, on the other hand, that in this ‘enchanted city’ of Tamajón some scenes of the film ‘Conan the Barbarian’ were filmed, starring that closet of Austrian origin and providentially installed in Hollywood, named Arnold Scharzenegger, as I do know that they were filmed in the ‘enchanted city’ of Cuenca.
But, apart from the skillful ability of erosion to mould figures of curious idiosyncrasy, the charm of this surprising 'enchanted city', located in the heart of that Guadalajara that is distinguished by the fascinating architecture of its so-called 'black towns', possibly lies in that extraordinary labyrinth of caves that characterises its subsoil and the exorcising presence of an ancient hermitage, dedicated to a very particular Marian figure: the Virgin of the Junipers.
Con algunas ‘ciudades encantadas’ de España, sucede el mismo y curioso fenómeno de dos conocidos ríos de Galicia, donde uno tiene la fama y el otro aporta las aguas. Sin llegar, no obstante, a ese nivel de probable exageración y asumiendo desde el principio, que las comparaciones, además de útiles pueden ser también odiosas, la ‘ciudad encantada’ de Cuenca puede que resulte, por extensión, más espectacular, después de todo, que la ‘ciudad encantada’ de Tamajón.
No tengo constancia, por otra parte, de que en ésta ‘ciudad encantada’ de Tamajón se rodaran algunas escenas de la película ‘Conan, el bárbaro’, protagonizada por ese armario de origen austríaco e instalado providencialmente en Hollywood, de nombre Arnold Scharzenegger, como sí me consta que se hicieron en la ‘ciudad encantada’ de Cuenca.
Pero, aparte de esa hábil destreza que tiene la erosión para moldear figuras de curiosa idiosincrasia, el embrujo de esta sorprendente ‘ciudad encantada’, sita en el corazón de esa Guadajalara que se distingue por la fascinante arquitectura de sus denominados ‘pueblos negros’, posiblemente radique en ese dédalo extraordinario de cuevas que caracteriza su subsuelo y la presencia, exorcizante, de una antiquísima ermita, dedicada a una figura mariana muy particular: la Virgen de los Enebrales.

La visité hace un par de años, y fue una agradable sorpresa. Toda esa zona de pueblos de arquitectura serrana y negra de la Sierra Norte de Guadalajara está llena de pequeños tesoros escondidos, como el puente medieval de Valdesotos, o las ruinas góticas de Santa María de Bonaval, en mitad del bosque.
Es una zona realmente impresionante y muy recomendable para una buena aventura. Sobre Bonaval, es una pena, porque, aunque han consolidado las ruinas, se ha perdido un monasterio grandioso. Como el monasterio hermano de Ovila, que se lo llevó, piedra a piedra, el magnate Randlph Hearst, para ponerlo en el jardín aledaño a una de sus grandes mansiones. En fin, que, aún expoliada miserablemente, Guadalajara tiene todavía muchas cosas impresionantes, incluida esta 'ciudad encantada', la ermita que vigila desde tiempos remotos, el cambio de cultos o la propia iglesia románica de Tamajón. Pero los pueblos, son un tesoro y ciertamente, tienen otro sabor.
