Some of the great heritage treasures of the Principality of Asturias and, by right, of humanity, are those first temples and refuges, the caves, where the civilizations that lived in the abysmal ages of the Paleolithic and the Neolithic, not only came into contact with the unknowable and the supernatural, but also left an important testimony of their spiritual sense of existence in the depths of them.
In large and mysterious cavities, some close to the impressive gorges that resemble a vertiginous fall of an angel towards the raging waters of the Cantabrian Sea, such as this famous Pindal cave, which, in addition, has as a backdrop the no less impressive contour of the Picos de Europa, one of the first transcendental adventures of humanity took place, millions of years ago.
And he did so, in the midst of a superb setting of dense forest and jungle, which, by its appearance, could well be considered a small enchanted world, which, millennia later, was also recovered by the pilgrimage routes along the coast that led the spiritual adventurer to Oviedo and the unavoidable stop at the cathedral of San Salvador, where it connected with the original path or continued towards Lugo and La Coruña, towards Finisterre and the waters of the Atlantic.
Algunos de los grandes tesoros patrimoniales del Principado de Asturias y por merecida extensión, de la Humanidad, son esos primeros templos y refugios, las cuevas, donde las civilizaciones que vivieron en las abismales edades del Paleolítico y del Neolítico, no sólo entraron en contacto con lo incognoscible y lo sobrenatural, sino, que, además, dejaron un importante testimonio de su anímico sentido de la existencia en lo más profundo de ellas.
En grandes y misteriosas oquedades, algunas cercanas a los impresionantes desfiladeros que semejan una vertiginosa caída de ángel en dirección a las embravecidas aguas del Cantábrico, como esta famosa cueva del Pindal, que, además, tiene como telón de fondo el no menos impresionante contorno de los Picos de Europa, se desarrolló, hace millones de años, una de las primeras aventuras trascendentales de la Humanidad.
Y lo hizo, en medio de un entorno soberbio, de bosque y selva tupida, que, por su aspecto, bien pudiera ser considerado como un pequeño mundo encantado, el cual, milenios más tarde, fue también recuperado por los caminos de peregrinación que por la costa encaminaban al aventurero espiritual hacia Oviedo y la ineludible parada en la catedral de San Salvador, donde conectaba con el camino original o continuaba hacia Lugo y La Coruña, en dirección a Finisterre y las aguas del Atlántico.
