Posiblemente, el lugar más frecuentado y el que suele promover el deseo de realizar selfies para el recuerdo en todos los turistas que visitan la Plaza Mayor de Madrid, sea, precisamente, este descomunal Arco de Cuchilleros, que salva el profundo desnivel con la Cava Baja de San Miguel, en cuyo comienzo se ubica el tradicional Mercado, también de San Miguel, que fue completamente restaurado en época moderna y ahora es uno de los centros más importantes de restauración y ocio de Madrid.
Nuestro querido Arco de Cuchilleros -se llama así, en honor del gremio establecido precisamente allí, desde tiempos medievales- es obra del famoso arquitecto, Juan de Villanueva y su existencia data del año 1790, después del pavoroso incendio que estuvo a punto de convertir en cenizas la Plaza Mayor, dejando numerosas historias y leyendas, algunas de las cuales intentaré mostrarles en el futuro.
