This is a monument to the Russian emperor Peter I. Photos were taken a year ago, in April 2019.
This monument has an unusual story. The monument was erected in 1910 on the Neva River embankment near the Winter Palace, the residence of the emperors of Russia. After the revolution, this monument was remelted. Historians of the Soviet era considered Peter the Great as a progressive figure, his personality was highlighted in textbooks in a positive way. Nevertheless, a significant part of the monuments to this king was destroyed in the first years after the revolution.
But in 1911 a copy of this monument was installed in the Netherlands, in the city of Zandam. A copy of this copy of the monument was made and installed in 1996. This is a gift from the Government of the Netherlands.
