North Platte River along the Parkway - Wondrous Wyoming

More pictures from along the North Platte River from the other day. The river is running high due to spring snowmelt. Much of this water will be used to irrigate Nebraska farmland.

The rapids at the Tate Pumphouse are strong, wild and noisy. It reminds you just how dangerous this river is. Very strong and swift. There are signs all around reminding one to have a life jacket on if you were to venture into the water. One false move and you'd be swept away with little chance of rescue.

The view towards the main part of Casper is a beautiful one. I may have to use these pictures for some of the challenges around Hive.

We saw a pair of American robins in a mating dance of sorts, quite amazing and humorous to watch as the courtship played out. I looked for a YouTube video of this dance, but alas, I could not find it.

Walking across the large boulders to take these last couple of pictures, I happened upon a pair of crosses with plastic flowers and offered plushy toys - a reminder of the danger this river poses to any who challenge its flow.

Ah yes! Beautiful to see the power of nature.
We were trapped in flood once and I learned the hard way that 1 liter of water weighs 1 kilogram lol.
So if something like 3 or 4 thousand cubic liters of water rushes down upon one, a canoe is definitely not the best option.

Great photos here mate.
Take care!

Yeah, that really does make one think again. I think an experienced white-water rafter would be okay on this - fairly mild compared to many, but you definitely wouldn't want to be taken by surprise.

Thanks for stopping by, glad you like the post!

Well, we saw entire trees being take out roots and all. The large dam was overflowing and to avoid damage, they had to open all 13 of the sluice gates in the dam wall. Farmers even had tractors washed away by the force of the waters.

My pleasure to pop in and thank you for the memories!

Gorgeous photos. The river looks beautiful but kind of dangerous indeed. With such strong currents it's better to stay at the shore and have a picnic instead. 😄

Agreed. Its beauty comes at a price. Even where there are no rapids, it's a fast-flowing river, especially right now. People do boat on it though... at least in the slightly calmer places.

I'm sure all this photos will give good Gaugans.
Nice landscapes.
