I have three options for sticking this problem back together, and I'd like to know which will work best. Durability is front of mind; what will last the longest? It's outdoors, exposed to the elements. Daily thermal expansion and contraction is a factor. The materials to join are stone — likely slate, and a metal — possibly brass. And my options are these:

  • Silicone Sealant

  • 2-part Epoxy

  • Construction Adhesive

Silicon feel the easiest, but it won't last... epoxy is very good, but considering the temperature changes could be too hard,I'm not sure... I find construction adhesive to be the best candidate, well depends on which kind...my guess will be something like a Joint Compound...it feels and looks like silicone but it has way better properties...it's made for the outside elements..

Now that I have read the original post and seen some pics...a metal epoxy will work best... I see you are not in America, but I hope you can find any J&B metal epoxy...it worked great for me even fixing a cracked engine block..

Thanks for your comment! That's interesting. Must be decent stuff if it held your engine block together. How long has that lasted now?

It was not my truck, but the car was driven for about a year until it went through un accident and was scrapped...

Wow damn. Still though a whole year of running is a long time. Very strong epoxy, definitely need to look at getting some somehow. Thank you

2-part epoxy could also be useful in this situation, though overall, construction adhesive would probably be better.

Thank you very much! I was leaning away from the construction adhesive at first as I figure it's designed primarily for timber. Reconsidering that now. Cheers for your input, much appreciated
