Fases de la Producción Musical
In the world of music is hidden a great work behind, usually, we see the final products and very rarely we stop to investigate or investigate a little how they have come to it. Depending on what you want to achieve, there are considerable hours of recording, editing and post-production, however, the overall process of a music production is not only these that are mentioned, it is a process where each phase must be evaluated and well worked to not interfere in the following stages. There are many specialized personnel involved in each phase throughout the entire music production process. In this volume of Magazine Zone we will expose a little of the process of music production to get an idea of the steps to follow, whether we look for a team or we go step by step doing everything at our own time.
En el mundo de la música está oculto un gran trabajo detrás, por lo regular, vemos los productos finales y en muy pocas ocasiones nos detenemos a indagar o investigar un poco cómo han llegado a ello. Según lo que se desea lograr, son considerables horas de grabación, edición y postproducción, sin embargo, el proceso general de una producción musical no son solo estás que se mencionan, es un proceso en donde cada fase debe ser evaluada y bien trabajada para no interferir en las etapas siguientes. Hay mucho personal especializado que se involucra en cada fase a lo largo de todo el proceso de la producción musical. En este volumen de Magazine Zone expondremos un poco el proceso de la producción musical para hacernos una idea de los pasos a seguir, bien sea que busquemos un equipo de trabajo o nosotros mismo vayamos paso a paso realizando todo a nuestro tiempo.
Undertaking a musical production does not mean that we have to do everything ourselves, however, being clear about the whole process helps us to look for the right people in the stages in which we have few skills, but even knowing them, it is advisable that another person specialized in the particular stage we are in provides us with other visions and possibilities of the subject to be produced. It also happens that we want to experience other areas we are not used to, or we want to achieve other things that we do not know how, and there it is necessary to look for other people to provide us with the relevant tools to achieve the musical production we want. It is important to know the details of the style of what we want to produce. In general lines, the creation of a musical theme involves three phases, we will see them throughout the volume, remember that it is not a straitjacket what will be raised, but a resource to guide us and to be well standing during the process.
Emprender una producción musical no significa que tengamos que hacer todo nosotros mismos, sin embargo, tener claro todo el proceso nos ayuda a buscar a las personas adecuadas en las etapas en las que tengamos pocas habilidades, pero aun sabiéndolas, se aconseja que otra persona especialista en la etapa particular en que estemos nos proporcione otras visiones y posibilidades del tema a producir. También sucede que queremos experimentar otras áreas no acostumbradas, o queremos lograr otras cosas que no sabemos cómo, y allí es necesario buscar a otras personas que nos brinden y aporten las herramientas pertinentes para lograr la producción musical que queremos. Es importante conocer los detalles del estilo de lo que queremos producir. En líneas generales, la creación de un tema musical conlleva tres fases, las iremos viendo a lo largo del volumen, recuerda que no es una camisa de fuerza lo que se planteará, sino un recurso para orientarnos y estar bien parados durante el proceso.

Before starting with the whole process it is vital to have the composition of the song, doing it in the best way from the beginning guarantees a good final product. Some people call this phase planning, it is basically the map of the whole musical production. Here we analyze how the voices will be handled, the instruments to be used, textures, among others. At this point it is also good to research and recognize some references. The execution of this plan benefits the mind, taking it out of the abstract and having a clear idea of how the song should sound. Once the song is ready, its structure, tempo, tonality and musical style, we must practice it a lot, rehearse it, it will guarantee good recording results.
Antes de arrancar con todo el proceso es vital tener la composición del tema, hacerlo de la mejor manera desde el comienzo nos garantiza un buen producto final. Es esta fase algunas personas la llaman planeación, es básicamente el mapa de toda la producción musical. Aquí se analiza cómo se manejarán las voces, los instrumentos a usar, texturas, entre otros. En este punto también es bueno investigar y reconocer algunas referencias. La ejecución de este plan beneficia a la mente, sacándola un poco del abstracto y tener claro como tendría que sonar el tema. Una vez lista la canción, su estructura, tempo, tonalidad y estilo musical, debemos practicarla mucho, ensayarla, nos garantizará buenos resultados de grabación.

Recording ||Grabación
Making a base recording of the track (demo) will help us to check all the basic details and thus avoid problems in the following phases and thus, not resorting to go back to the recording session. The vast majority of music producers try to record the exact sound they want in order to speed up the post-production process. During the recording it is possible to find slight changes according to the creative exploration of the musicians involved, it is the beautiful part of this whole process, the contribution of the collaborating musicians that nurture the musical theme. In recent years, the home studio has been promoted a lot, however, regardless of this, it is not advisable to try to be clever and skip steps, as this could ruin the final product to a great extent.
Hacer una grabación base del tema (maqueta) nos ayudará a revisar todos detalles base y así evitarnos problemas en las siguientes fases y así, no recurrir a volver a la sesión de grabación. La gran mayoría de los productores musical buscan tratar de grabar el sonido exacto que se quiere para agilizar el proceso de postproducción. Durante la grabación es posible se hallan leves cambios según la exploración creativa de los músicos involucrados, es la parte la bonita de todo este proceso, el aporte de los músicos colaboradores que nutren el tema musical. En los últimos años, se ha promovido mucho el estudio en casa, sin embargo, independientemente de ello, no es aconsejable intentar ser listos y saltarse los pasos, ya que esto podría arruinar el producto final en gran medida.

Postproduction || Postproducción
This stage is crucial, here we will see all the details of the previous phases, despite being the last of the process it is vital to obtain good results. In this part of the process we will find two processes: mixing and mastering. In the mixing the producers will face all the individual recordings that have been made of all the instruments, adjusting all the necessary parameters to raise the sound, making everything more professional; equalizers, compressors, delay, chorus, effects, among others, are applied according to what is required. Once the mix is ready, mastering takes place, the final process that gives the final character of our production. In this stage, the engineer gives the final details, adjusting the mix and enhancing the sound with different processes characteristic of this stage. It is important to mention that in this part of the process we work with the homogeneous mix, the instruments are not edited separately, for this reason, if the previous phases have not been done a good job, hardly anything can be fixed in this phase.
Esta etapa es crucial, aquí veremos todos los detalles de las fases anteriores, a pesar de ser la última del proceso es vital para obtener buenos resultados. En esta parte del proceso nos encontraremos dos procesos: la mezcla y la masterización. En la mezcla los productores se enfrentarán a todas las grabaciones individuales que se han realizado de todos los instrumentos, ajustando todos los parámetros necesarios para levantar el sonido, haciendo todo más profesional; se aplican ecualizadores, compresores, delay, chorus, efectos, entre otros, según lo que se requiera. Una vez lista la mezcla, tiene lugar la masterización, el proceso último que da el carácter final de nuestra producción. En esta etapa, el ingeniero otorga los detalles finales, ajustando la mezcla y realzando el sonido con diferentes procesos característicos de esta etapa. Es importante mencionar que en este parte del proceso se trabaja con la mezcla homogénea, no se editan los instrumentos por separados, por tal motivo, si las fases anteriores no se ha hecho un buen trabajo, difícilmente en esta fase pueda arreglarse algo.

We mentioned at the beginning that this is a long process, however, when we get to the end, listening to what we have produced, the satisfaction is gigantic, it motivates us and makes us go for more. We finished the production of our song, and now what? The process does not die in the mastering, we still need to distribute and promote the song. Today we make use of digital streaming platforms, such as Apple Music, Spotify, Deezer, Tidal, Amazon, Youtube Music, among others. It is possible that we are interested in protecting our song at the level of Intellectual Property and Copyright. When we carry our project independently, this part of the process is complex because we are battling alone with everything to promote ourselves, many times it is a titanic task.
Mencionamos en un inicio que esto es un proceso largo, sin embargo, cuando llegamos al final, escucharnos lo que hemos producido, la satisfacción es gigante, nos motiva y nos hace ir por más. Terminamos la producción de nuestro tema, ¿Y ahora qué? El proceso no muere en la masterización, aún falta distribuir y promocionar la canción. Hoy día se hace uso de las plataformas digitales de streaming, cómo Apple Música, Spotify, Deezer, Tidal, Amazon, Youtube Music, entre otros. Es posible que nos interese proteger nuestra canción a nivel de Propiedad Intelectual y Derechos de Autor. Cuando llevamos nuestro proyecto de forma independiente, está parte del proceso, resulta ser compleja porque estamos batallando nosotros solos con todo para promocionarnos, muchas veces es una tarea titánica.
