I’m sitting on the deck with my sun hat on. It’s hot. I love it. There is tiny little baby spiders crawling on me. I really don’t love that.
We have a lot of little things going on here. Little animals, little projects, little humans...
Spring has sprung! I can’t quite manage to write a separeate post about every little project or animal. So, I’m just going to feature our new little fluffy pet today. Who’s excited?!
His first home called him Fluffy. His second home called him Heart. I don’t know what we’ll call him. What do you think? Fluffy, Heart, Fluffy Heart, or LORD LARRY?
He’s a silkie rooster. He came to us a couple of weeks ago. Before that, he belonged to our friends, @canadianrenegade. Their flock went through a major social structure change, and this little guy started to get bullied. Our friends noticed it right away and brought him to our brooding pen to heal. You can read about their experience with him here.
He’s the cutest little guy and we’re going to keep him.
After spending a day in our brooding pen, we put him outside in one of our chicken tractors.
And then we got him a girlfriend.
Her feathers have been pulled out of her back from the roosters in our main flock. We should have pulled her out sooner before the bald spot developed. But, we live and we learn. Now she is on a little holiday with her new boyfriend.
It was really funny when they first met each other. The hen just bok bok bokked, and the rooster started doing the funniest little scootchy scootch chicken dance moves. He must have really impressed her because they’re totally in love.
She’s still the boss though.
Their chicken tractor was set up right beside the other tractor that has the mother hen and her chicks. Once everyone was settled in their tractors we decided to set up some electric poultry fence and open the doors on the tractors. Mother hen was very happy to get some new dirt to work in. The chicks run around and are having a blast. The silkie rooster in settling into the step-father role nicely. He showed mother hen his cool moves, too, and again, they must have been impressive.
The hens and silkie rooster.
Chicken tractors.
5 week old chicks
Another fun fact…the two hens that are together now with the silkie rooster are sisters. They are the first chicks we hatched in our homemade incubator last spring. I think they were happy to be together again.
There’s a few other hens that have some thinning back feathers, so we might just move them over with the little silkie dude, too.
Little Lord Larry Fluffy Heart is going from the bottom to the top.
What’s up? Chicken butt!
If you’d like to come see what else we’re up to this spring, come for a walk with me in this vlog!

Lots happening on the homestead. Lord Larry Fluffy Heart or LLFH? Ha! I love that you plant by the moon, we plant by are we still up and it's not midnight yet? And, oh crap, those seed roots really are long and should be in some soil. Yikes! I love that you 5 week chicks look like awkward teenagers. -Aimee
Haha thanks Aimee! LLFH, proud stepfather of 11 awkward teenagers 😂 He's such a good boy.
I'm so impressed that you get a garden planted at all. You guys are just killin it over there. Your plants don't give an F about what the moon thinks of them. 😎

That's quite a mouthful for a little rooster! Fun on the farm for Spring. Enjoy the sunny days Emily. And the growing kids. Best time of year
Thank you @buckaroobaby!
This was a fun post! Why not just call him Silky Rooster? ;<)
P.S. I read 'Silly Rooster' first :<)
Heheh, he is a silly rooster 😏
Glad he's got a better place now. Keep an eye on the bare backed one, they sunburn easily...
Thanks @goldenoakfarm! ☺️
