Fluffy, flashy white popcorn garland offers a snow-like contrast of color to a Christmas tree, or strung along a mantel. It’s a relaxing craft that can be done while you listen to music or watch a Christmas movie. Our 4-year-old was a fan of this one – he ate the popcorn, I threaded the popcorn. That’s usually the way it goes.
This year I am taking responsibility of my Christmas spiritedness (is that a word?). We’re decking the halls with every classic Christmas craft I can think of. I’ve already shared on the blog how to make Orange and Clove Pomanders, and “High-End” Salt Dough Ornaments, and I have more traditional homemade Christmas decor ideas lined up for the rest of the week.
While we craft we like to listen to music that reminds us of what Christmas is all about. Hearing those encouraging messages while I thoughtfully thread popcorn into garland sure does sooth my soul. I hope you feel it, too, while you make this simple, classic Christmas garland.
How to Make Popcorn Garland
Make the Popcorn
Add two tablespoons of oil, and 1/3 cup of pop corn kernels to a large pot. Cook over medium-low heat, with the lid on but slightly ajar. In a few minutes the kernels will start to pop. When the popping sounds slow down or stop, remove from heat.
Make the Garland
Use a needle and thread to make a string of popcorn. Put your own personal touches on your garland by adding dried fruits (like colourful cranberries, or dehydrated orange slices), bows, or bells. Make a loop at each end of the garland so it is easy to hang on your Christmas tree.
Happy Holidays Everyone!
