A few weeks back, I did a hormone profile test; it turned out my prolactin level was a bit high. The doctor recommended Maca Root and Evening Primerose oil to balance up my hormones. I got the other supplements I reviewed on, mostly for their cosmetic functions.
Maca Root; This Peruvian ginseng is packed with essential vitamins and minerals like vitamin C, B6, iron, potassium, copper and so on.
It was traditionally discovered and used to boost sex drive in both male and female. It also helps in fertility.
Maca has been shown to help improve mental wellbeing, as it reduces depression and anxiety.
Dosage; 1 tablespoon of the powder dissolved in water, yoghurt or fruit juice.
Evening Primerose Oil; These have been traditionally used to treat hormonal imbalance, digestive problems, hemorrhoids, bruises, relieves PMS and high blood pressure, minimize breast pain and so much more.
It is also known for it’s cosmetic functions like preventing and clearing acne, eczema, and improve overall skin health.
Dosage; 1 capsule daily (with meal)
Vitamin C; It is a water soluble vitamin and is very essential. It could be derived from many fruits and vegetables. It is a powerful antioxidant and immune booster.
Vitamin C helps lower the blood pressure and risk of heart disease. It also protects against gout attacks.
Fun Facts; Your body can’t produce vitamin C
Dosage; 1 capsule daily (with meal)
Vitamin E; It is a group of fat soluble vitamins with antioxidant effects. It’s proven to help prevent cancer, inflammation, boost immune, promote eye health, as well as lower the risk of cancer. It is mostly used for the cosmetic benefits, which, amongst others, are to give clear, glowing skin, reduce the risk of sunburn and inflammation, heal scars overtime and so on.
Dosage; 1 capsule daily, with food.
Cranberry; Cranberry has been proven to reduce the risk/frequency of urinary tract infections. It’s a great immune booster as well. Cranberry helps to protect against cancer, cavities and stomach ulcers. I only started taking these recently.
Dosage; 1 tablet daily (with meal)
Disclaimer; It is generally adviced to get your vitamins and minerals from foods.
Also, dosage may vary based on the individual and reason for intake.
Do you take any of these?
