Hello everyone and all members of the natural medicine community, how are you today? are you healthy and happy? I hope that all of us are always in good health, both physically and mentally. Moreover, towards the turn of this year, sometimes we often attend various events until late at night and make the body less rested and get sick easily.

Cough

These days, the weather in my city often rains in the morning and evening. Rain is a blessing and a gift, because thanks to rain it will preserve life on this earth. Rain also makes the weather cooler, and if it rains at night it will make us more comfortable to sleep. However, the rain in the morning meant that workers like me had to leave in rainy conditions, and that made me catch a cough.

I had a pretty bad cough recently. My throat was very itchy, and it was a dry cough. I was forced to have a covid-19 test to check if I was indicated to have covid-19. My job makes me have to meet a lot of people and often discuss, I have to take care of myself with my customers. The result of the test was negative, meaning that the cough I was experiencing might be just a normal cough but it is really annoying.

My friend heard of my condition, which was suffering from cough, gave me one herbal medicine from Java. My friend knows that I am a person who doesn't like taking drugs (chemical drugs, such as paracetamol) that's why he gave the herbal medicine to me. He said his cough also subsided after drinking the potion.

He gave me a packet of potions. On the package it says "Wedang Pereda Batuk", wedang is a word that is often used to describe a warm drink that has certain properties. So, it can be said that this drink is an herbal concoction to relieve coughs.

I saw the package about the composition of this herbal medicine. The composition consists of sappan wood, mint leaves, amaranth, ginger, cloves, oranges, temulawak. There are several ingredients that become my highlight, the first is sappan wood. Sappan wood has long been used for herbal ingredients because it is considered to relieve pain or inflammation. The second is ginger, for herbalists, of course, they know very well the benefits of ginger. In fact, some candy products use ginger for a throat-relieving effect.

The packaging also explains the benefits of drinking this herbal medicine. Some of the benefits we get include relieving coughs, inflammation, detoxifying toxins, relieving breathing, relieving headaches and pain, preventing cancer, etc. I have not found scientific literacy on the above claims, my experience is sometimes herbal medicine often exaggerates its efficacy to make it look more bombastic and look cool.

Mixing Herbal Medicine

Then I directly mix this herbal medicine. I heated 400 ml of water in a pot, and then put all the ingredients in. Boiling this herb will get a better taste than brewing it directly with hot water.

The color of the boiled water will slowly turn yellow, and will give off a distinctive, (spicy) aroma.

After that, turn off the stove and let the boiling water sit for about 10 minutes so that the ingredients are more absorbed.

Then, I prepared a stainless steel container and strainer to separate the water and the ingredients that were boiled earlier. Do it slowly and carefully so that the water does not spill. Don't forget, I added honey to make the jamu taste sweet.

Wedang Cough Relief is ready to drink.

What I feel

I immediately drank this herbal medicine. The first impression I got was that it tasted pretty good for one herbal drink. At first, I thought the taste would be strange like bitter and spicy, but this herbal medicine is very comfortable in the throat. The flavors of ginger, cardamom and cloves make this drink a warm feeling in the throat. This herb is very suitable to be enjoyed in warm conditions. Because the effect of the spices will be more pronounced when the drink is very warm.

Before taking this herbal medicine, I couldn't fall asleep because I kept coughing. Even my neighbor was surprised, because he knew I was also a non-smoker. I drink this herbal medicine twice, at night and in the morning. In the morning, I tried to boil this herbal concoction again and it was still okay to use.

Finally, the next day my cough had subsided and I could do my activities more comfortably. I thank my friends very much, and that's what it means to have good and understanding friends.
