Me and @illusivelf moved at Thessaloniki city 6 months ago and we are having so much fun living here!
Thessaloniki is the 2nd biggest city in Greece, full of beautiful old buildings, uderground alleys and of course a ton of street food shops.
Moving at a bigger city and spending that much time outside definitely impacted our daily routine and despite the fact that we are having the time of our lives, some bad habits "knocked our door" like smoking and a bad nutrition.
We decided to tackle both these problems at the same time so we are limiting smoking and adding a ton more green on our table. Actually, we visited the flea market today and bought all these goodies.
Food is the fuel of our bodies so eating well will positively impact both our physical and mental health as well as help us in reducing/cutting off smoking too.
We decided to take things one step further so we wrote down a list of our favourite "healthy" foods and scheduled our meals for the next 4 days!
Having bought all these vegetables "forces" us to eat them. Who likes to throw food away?!? I bet it's not gonna be that hard judging from how tasty all these veggies look like!
Oh, I almost forgot! We also bought some mint and will drink a cup of mint every night before sleep. From what I've read, mint is the best "cleaner" for our lungs!
Mint, lettuce, spinach and bananas
Today was the first day we sticked to our "schedule" and we cooked a really delicious potato-salad with peppers, carrot, onion, mayonesse and spicies accompanied with lettuce with olive oil, garlic and lemon!
We are still full from this epic meal and we will cook fried eggplants and zuccini for dinner accompanied with a "Greek Salad". Haven't eaten fried vegetables for a while now and I can't wait hehehe!
Until my next nutrition update! Take care and always have fun!
Peace!

Hell yeah! I can't understate the importance of planning out your meals- that's a really good idea. I've been trying to eat a lot better myself these past few years. I think "planning" is exactly what you need to do- and would prevent a lot of my slip-ups. I eat very, very few things other than grains, fruits and vegetables. I've been trying to kick dairy but that shit's wayyyyy too hard for me right now.
I think planning is the only way to make this work my dude or else I'll come up with a ton of excuses to not cook and shit!
Just started doing that so let's see how it goes! Not planning on going vegan but I definitely wanna reduce the amount of meat I am eating from 4-5 times a week to 1-2 and everything homemade!
Let's see how this goes! Good thing I have my gf and we do that shit together!
I'm not plannin on no full vegan either, but it's fun to try sometimes. I like to experiment with my intake of different things and see the differences in how my body feels. I stopped eating meat purely because of the damage the mass-produced industry does. I just don't want to support that. That being said, if someone offers me some locally, ethically sourced meat, I got no problem with that!
All love to you and yours!
That food looks great. Congrats for taking positive steps. It's a process, somedays you'll have great successes and some will be set backs. Don't let that discourage you. One day, one meal at a time.
!BBH
Thanks a lot for both the tip and the encoureging comment buddy! let's see how that goes!
1st day was a complete success!
Because this is such an awesome post, here is a BBH Tip for you. . Keep up the fantastic work
That looks like a wholesome bunch of veggies and fruit, we mostly do alright but are trying to cook more fresh meals these days. Girlfriend made a dish from the "Simple" book from Ottolenghi yesterday. Was really enjoyable: prawns with feta, tomato sauce and orzo (a pasta that looks like rice). Reminded me of prawn saganaki from when we visited Greece. One of my favorites :-p
Good luck with the progress in this!
Prawn saganaki? I've never tried this one buddy! Gotta check that "Simple" book you mentioned, I bet it's gonna have a ton of recipes to take a look at!
I am lucky to live in Greece cause our soils are perfect for cultivating so fresh vegetables are cheap and easy to find here!
In which city did you spend your days in Greece? Summer vacation on an island I suppose?!?
You haven't?! Well, I guess you have to like cheese and prawns to enjoy it. Really thought it was a specific Greek dish. My very first out of country holiday as a child with my parents was to Greece actually, indeed on an island I think it was Corfu and later we also visited Lesbos. Then with friends we partied at Kreta after finishing school and recent years went sailing twice so seen quite a bit :-)
So far really enjoyed the book probably not a bad idea to check it out, there's recipes for when you're short on time or with only ingredients most people will have in their pantry so it takes some of the excuses away to not cook and resort to fast food. Let me know if you do and how you like it!
I will man and thanks for the tip!
Maybe this prawn saganaki is a local treat at one of the islands you visited in the past! Definitely not a traditional Greek delicacy!
Kreta is beautiful and same goes for Corfu! My favourite island in Greece is Ithaka by far though! YOu should visit if you haven't and planning vacations here again!
Ahh yes, actually we might have been there when sailing. Can't remember the exact spots we stayed but man most were really beautiful and the food was always good. Not making any plans right now unfortunately, too uncertain still with covid and all but will keep it in mind for later.
Text me if you visit! I always love meeting fellow Hivers!
will do :-)
Έτσι πρέπει και λίγη υγιεινή διατροφή μαζί με άθληση φυσικά!!!
Pame ligo brooooooo!
Uaaahhh! This is awesome @knowhow92 !
I'm trying to do the same. I just can't stop eating rice lol and I am the worst at cooking
Hahaha! Used to be sucks in cooking too but I've improved a lot after a ton of failures hahaha!
Rice is awesome and very healthy! Did you cook all that @dudaiibits ? Looks delicious!
Let me try and get this right, you guys are taking solace in eating vegan to stay away from smoking? That's really laudable, imo.
Well, not exacty! We were thinking that if we eat healthy maybe it will help us in reducing/cutting off smoking. Cutting off bad habits one step at a time! First comes the junk food and then comes the smoking!
It might not make sense but it some how feels like it will work for me! I am gonna feel guilty if I smoke a lot while trying to eat healthier so I guess it's more like a psycological approach hahaha!
Yum ... love a table full of fresh produce. I've had lots of eggplant coming out of my garden - I've been frying them and then adding tamarind and honey and a splash of tamari to the pan for the last two minutes to coat and heat. So good!!! I didn't know about mint tea. You could try rosemary tea as well as it's great for the liver, so good for detox! I know eggplant is also good for nicotine withdrawal!
Thanks for the tips @riverflows! Oh, I miss homegrown veggies! My parents grow pretty much everything and I can't wait until they sent me a parcel full of fresh vegetables!
I;ll definitely try this eggplant recipe you mentioned! I love eggplant and every food that has eggplant in it like the famous Greek "Mousaka" hehe!
Thanks for stopping by yooo ✌️
Oh I love mousakka.. well, a lentil over a lamb one but still cooked Greek style! Yum. Or a good brinjal curry
Oh stop it hahaha! All these recipes sound delicious! Never tried lamb with lentil!
Brinjal curry rocks by the way!
Here's another one, the Italian varian: Melanzane Parmigiana. Not sure which I prefer between mousaka and that one
I always find the more nutrient-dense the food, the more filling it is and keeps you full for longer. It's really good that you are taking care of your health and good quality food is just the thing to help.
