Hello friends, I want to share with you an aromatic plant which I use eventually and it is really helpful.
The (Piper auritum), better known in my country as Anisote, in other places it is known as; hoja santa, acuyo, jaco among other names. This comes from tropical Mesoamerica, many of them are found in Mexico, which has spread more and more through birds and bats.
It is used for both medicinal and gastronomic purposes. It is heart-shaped and has a strong aroma. It belongs to the black pepper family.
In gastronomy, it is commonly used in the preparation of meat, fish, poultry, sauces, broths and cheeses. Its penetrating smell is also used in the aromatization of tamales or bollitos, chiles rellenos and mole verde, traditional Mexican dishes. Besides having a great flavor, it has health benefits.
On the other hand, in the field of medicine, it helps us to reduce fever and inflammation of the kidneys, soothe stomach aches, prevent indigestion, constipation, diarrhea, respiratory problems (asthma and bronchitis). It also helps to combat nervousness and insomnia, thanks to the sedatives it contains.
Will consuming this plant have any effect? It is listed by the FDA (Food and Drug Administration) as GRAS (Generally Recognized as Safe) for use as a food flavoring. There have been no reports of significant side effects or adverse reactions, except for the occasional unavoidable allergic reaction. Likewise, its consumption should not be exceeded. "Nothing in excess has ever been good."
Fun fact:
The aroma emanating from this leaf is produced by a compound called safrole, the same compound possessed by root beers.
Thanks for your attention and consideration, happy rest of the day...
