Natural Nootropic Cinnamon

Prevents AD [alzhemeir disease] and PD [Parkinson Disease]

For those who are looking into alternatives of nootropics options, who would have thought cinnamon has nootropic properties?

It is one of most underrated nootropics out there. You might have heard about lion mane, gotu kola, etc but cinnamon for nootropic? that's something new.

I know, it's not going to serve you the benefits like other substances I mentioned but, it prevents neurodegenerative disease like alzhemeir and parkison.

Is there any study to back this claim?

yes there is. A study conducted by Khanasvis and Pahan mentioned that oral treatment of MPTP-intoxicated mice with cinnamon powder and NaB reduced the expression of iNOS and protected Parkin/DJ-1 in the nigra. These findings paralleled dopaminergic neuronal protection, normalized striatal neurotransmitters, and improved motor functions by cinnamon in MPTP-intoxicated mice. These results suggest that cinnamon may be beneficial for PD patients.. There also linked studies mentioning cinnamon preventing these neurodegenerative disease. Here are some further articles to read :

(1) Cinnamon in a Mouse Model of PD: Khasnavis S, Pahan K. Cinnamon Protects Dopaminergic Neurons in a Mouse Model of Parkinson's Disease. J Neuroimmune Pharmacol 2014;9:569-581.

(2)Sodium Benzoate, a Metabolite of Cinnamon and a Food Additive, Upregulates Neuroprotective Parkinson Disease Protein DJ-1 in Astrocytes and Neurons.

The main article I read has been cited 26 times in studies related to that. Sometimes, it comes surprising to me that people are actually starting to rely on natural options and getting some research done. I think in the future people will benefit with these studies. However, let's not forget that not all cinnamon are the same.

A cinnamon that we often see may be dangerous if consumed excessively

There are two types of cinnamon. The ceylon and Cassia cinnamon. The ceylon cinnamon has better health benefits than Cassia. It is reported that cassia, the common cinnamon that you find out there may trigger cancer cells if consumed excessively. Therefore you should not consume it excessively and regularly. Below is the example of Cassia, which has darker bark with perfectly rolled bark. It also has strong spiciness and aroma which makes it a great spices. Meanwhile ceylon ha milder taste and less appetizing to say the least.

So that is to say, not all Cinnamon is the same. However, it is important to note that researches use both types of cinnamon. I integrate drinking cinnamon at least once a week and only one bark diffused in a hot water. It feels really comforting and relaxing. Let me know in the comment section about this spice native spice from Sri Lanka.

Thank you @trucklife-family. I hope someone will read and really take notes that not all cinnamon are the same.

I wonder if the grocery store sells the milder version. I'd like to try it sometime soon.

You can find the powdered version too. It's as good !
