I tweeted the other day that I didn’t feel like I was doing without very much even though I was cutting out nicotine, alcohol, caffeine, refined sugar, seed/nut oils, and processed food. The change in my diet hasn’t meant I was forced to eat less of a volume of food and I also didn’t really have to sacrifice on quality or flavor. In fact, some of these dishes were new and I think they were a step up in those qualities.
1. Watermelon
Fresh, ripe watermelon is a treat. It satisfies a sweet tooth, hydrates you and it just fun to eat. My issue has always been how to find a ripe one that is at its’ peak of flavor. If anyone has any hints, please throw them in the comments. I have had watermelon almost as many times as I have had cherries this cleanse. I didn’t include the cherries but there up there with the watermelon. I just so happened to have an amazing watermelon in the first week of the cleanse and that stuck with me this whole time. In general, fresh fruit without any real preparation other than peeling and slicing was a star of this cleanse and will be a staple of mine moving forward.
2. Sheet Pan Cauliflower Tacos
My wife normally makes the cauliflower (with peppers and onions) for the filling of fajitas. Since I was avoiding flour, the fajita wraps were a no go. But I did discover that I love white corn tortillas. They have a habit of breaking when you fold them but I’m willing to deal with that for the purposes of having a non-flour pocket to hold the cauliflower and all the other goodies on top!
3. Black Bean & Rice Bowls
Beans and rice are one of the most versatile bases for making a plethora of dishes. Specifically, bowls with loads of toppings on them. This cleanse I relied heavily on hot sauce, salsa, and fresh guacamole to flavor up a bunch of the dishes. I certainly didn’t go wrong with that decision because those dishes both satisfied me in terms of filling my belly and making my taste buds happy.
4. Dahl
It’s been a few years since Jocelyn made Dahl. It’s mostly because there are some specific spices that can be a pain to track down if you don’t have an Indian market nearby. Dahl is hearty and naturally sweet thanks to the golden raisins. Plus the flavor profile of all those spices is incredible. Served with some simply prepared greens on the side is the best because it balances the super flavorful Dahl.
5. Mushroom & Brown Rice Veggie Burgers
Veggie burgers are yet another super versatile base to build meals around or on top of. We have been searching for good veggie burger recipes ever since we finally came to our senses about the laboratory food that is marketed as meat alternatives. These mushroom and brown rice burgers are hearty, filling, and very meaty in texture. There’s some preparation involved but making them in a large portion and then freezing them is a huge win. Pictured here I have put my burger in a lettuce wrap with pickles (hold the bun because of the flour and hold the ketchup because of the sugar). The sides are mashed potatoes made with homemade coconut milk butter and coconut-cashew milk as well as sauteed turnips in a Dijon mustard sauce.
Please feel free to share your favorite, healthy dishes in the comments. I’d love to try some on my next 30 Day Whole Life Cleanse in 62 days.
And with that, we put day 28 to bed. On to the second to last day!!!!!!!

So I looked it up on how to find a ripe watermelon for you and this is what Google said:
"To find a ripe watermelon, look for the field spot, which is a large, yellow patch on one side of the melon.
The color should be creamy, almost butter-like yellow, and the bigger the yellow belly, the more time the melon spent ripening on the vine.
The green stripes should be a deep, dark green, while the pale stripes should be a creamy, light yellow.
A ripe watermelon will feel sturdy and have a resonant, satisfying hollow sound, which means it's brimming with juice and at its peak of ripeness.
If the thwap is dull sounding or the fruit feels soft, pass on it. If you start lifting watermelons, you should find that their weights are similar, and a dried tail indicates that the watermelon is ripe."
So the next time you go hunting for watermelons, look for some yellow patches! I hope you get the chance to use this information one day! Have a nice day! :)
This is hugely helpful. I also received the chart below from another reader. Looking forward to putting it into action!
Thank you for showing me that photo! The photo really helps me to understand how a "white field spot" looks. Keep up the good work & have a good day! :D
