There's an interesting side to the the covid19 pandemic and lockdown. With shortages in the shops and loss of income for many, people are turning back to the land and what it can provide for them. This week we have two features on food coming from places you may not have thought to look before.
Things happening in the community.
The current @naturalmedicine challenge is all about wild edibles Food is all around if if we only know where to look. Perhaps you know about your wild edibles and can share how to use them, or you have no idea, but would like to learn and we can learn along the way with you.
Over at the @needleworkmonday community, @shanibeer has announced that the weekly opportunity to win a delegation of 1000HP for a month will continue into June. Entry is simple, merely post your needle work related posts in the community on a Monday.
Welcoming Newcomers
It's always a good week when we get to welcome a newcomer! This week I was pleased to meet @thisismylife whose art is also therapy.
Some highlights of the week
These days much more than we realise, of the plant on common vegetables we eat, is edible. @freemotherearth demonstrates this perfectly with her creamy radish top soup.
With some more surprising edibles comes @m31 and the various ways dandelions can make or be part of a tasty meal.
Onions take a long time to grow from seed to the edible bulb we are so familiar with. For many climates this makes it very hard to grow them from seed, but with these tips from @mazima, you might have some success.
@paradoxtma discusses why they like to build things themselves and shows us how they built these adjustable seedling stands.
Each week one of our featured authors will be selected to be a 5% beneficiary of The Lotus Garden newsletter. This week @freemotherearth will receive this award.

I think Homesteaders is my favorite newsletter of yours. 💚
I myself am one those who are coming back to our lands!!! So these come very handy and it makes me even more excited to share the process with you all!
Coming back to the land is a natural medicine in itself, so I love being able to bring it to the NM community. So glad you enjoy the newsletter.
It's affirming and so encouraging to me to see the resilience of our growing-conscious-green-homesteading community on Hive! Nice job, @minismallholding. Also loved seeing @thisismylife's post curated - newbie support always makes me smile. 😍
It's always so exciting to be able to welcome a newcomer and @thisismylife is off to a strong start too! I hate having to delete the "welcoming newcomers" section when I can't find someone to announce.
You do an AWESOME job as both a curator and a Hive mentor - keep reaching and supporting - you are noticed. ❤️
Hey guys, that’s a well curated list. I particularly enjoyed reading about growing onions. I bought some to store till October or close to the end of the year.
So glad you found something useful there. I aim to please. 😁
Thank you for the warm welcome <3
I almost feel ashamed for being featured with that blog as the artwork looks horrible compared to those I made the day after lol..
I already see those other posts contain some info about stuff I had no idea about. Will defo visit these later!
Have a good day:)
I picked that photo because it looked beautiful to me! 😁 We always strive for improvement, but it doesn't negate what cane before.
Glad you're settling in well and look forward to seeing you around.
