In this video where Steve Bartlett interviews anti-obesity Doctor, Gabrielle Lyon, you get to hear a lot of statistics and insights about how only a small percentage of people workout and how life changing regular workouts can be.
Important things to note which she said are:
• You cannot have a high quality life without high quality muscle.
• Only 6-8% of people do enough resistance training (meet the resistance training guidelines)
• 50% of Americans don't even workout.
• The majority of individuals are sedentary
• Life expectancy has gone up, but the quality of life hasn't. People are living long but being unable to carry out simple physical activities
These stats are mainly about Americans but the difference can't be much when compared to other countries. Because this is the age of technology and a lot of ease is in almost everybody's lives.
Elevators, vehicles, home delivery, no need to farm, hunt, fish, fetch wood, fetch water from streams/rivers/the like, no need to chop wood, etc.
People hardly do enough physical activity and so going to the gym is one of the only ways to get some physical activity in, and how many people go to the gym regularly enough?
What this means is that all the things you hear about aging and health, how people say once you reach 25 it's all downhill from here, how your health deteriorates when you age, how your sight becomes bad, Alzheimer's, Parkinson's, diabetes, inability to do physical activities, etc.
Everything you hear about aging are the facts derived from observing people, and guess what? The people observed are people that don't workout. What this means is when you workout you're an exception, all those facts cannot be true about you.
In a nutshell you shouldn't fear the things that affect people when you're a totally different breed of person.
Only 6-8% of people do enough resistance training, how crazy tiny is that? By simply doing enough you become a totally different breed and when you hear of all the health challenges that comes with aging you should just know it is none of your business.
It's just like a multi-billionaire learning that the price of things have gone up, that can't be much of a bother to him compared to a minimum wage earner.
This write-up is not just to encourage people to start working out of they want a better quality of life but to also remind those who workout properly that they're really of a different breed and all the things they heard about aging was not about them 😅.
If you don't workout enough you just have to start, but that's only if you care about being a superior breed, if you want to not be one of the people all the aging facts were derived from.
If one gets to live until old age, being able to move on your own and carry out day-to-day activities and being free from most of the diseases of the old too would be priceless. Not being on the good side of these is the reason for fear of old age, but luckily there's a way around it, excercise!
