The Season of Picking off Chillies has Begun in Nepal

Chilies, also known as the “ the Queen of Spice,” is very common in South Asian Kitchens. In the hilly parts of our country Nepal, Chilies are grown commonly. The round chilies are very much popular in the hilly areas.

Currently, we have more than 500 peppers/chile plants bearing fruits. From the last week, we have started picking green chilies.

Usually, peppers are planted in March and April but bear fruits for upto three years. So the old chile plants bear fruits earlier. In the last two months, we have also planted some chilies, but still, they are tiny, and we need to wait a few months more to get fruits from them.

We have two kinds of chilies. One of them grows upward. Last year from this chilies field, we sold more than 500 kgs of chilies. This year also chilies are growing well.

But the Covid crisis has hit our country badly. Most of the farmers are in worry as they won’t be able to sell chilies if this covid crisis continues.
