Of course I may be completely spoiled for having been in Nagano, where there seems to be a natural onsen on every corner. Though I bet urban spaces like Tokyo must also have a bunch of onsens with imported waters.

Ya, there are quite a few around, but the ones in the mountains seem more authentic. My in-laws have one in their second home. The water is pumped in from a nearby source. It's always nice to use it, but the views of the neighbors house aren't the best....
An onsen inside their home? 😮 That's incredible!!! But then again, not more incredible than dinky little apartments having their own sauna in Finland, or geothermal hot springs being used for municipal heating in Iceland.
