The Human Design System
This is a powerful resource for understanding the energy that introduces you to the world long before your personality could; the positioning of the large celestial bodies at the time of your emergence into this world (as well as on a day a couple of months before) creates a map of potential adventures to experience in this life. Knowing and working with your energies, rather than in conflict of them, can lead to great happiness and the highest impact you can make. But to have access to the whole (and accurate) tool, you must know your birth time.
In my case, I went straight to the source--I was able to ask my mother. I was raised within a household that followed organized religion vs a more eastern spirituality, but fortunately my mom knew my sister and my birth times off the top of her head (double score! Human Design can tell you about how your energy interacts with people live or work with).
If you cannot ask someone who was present for your birth, look to documents. Whether official, like a government birth certificate, or informal, like in a "Baby's Milestones" book or family member's journal, finding any information to narrow down the 24 hours will help with cutting down on some of the detective work.
Once you have narrowed your time range as much as is possible, the real work will begin. If you are reading someone else's chart, you will need to know them well, or be in contact to ask some clarifying questions...
Some of the information, like your Type or Authority may not change much in your time range. The piece that does change predictably throughout the day is Profile, making a great tool for zeroing in on time of birth.
Profile looks like a fraction, each side with a number 1-6. The first number will describe your conscious "role" that you play in life. You will most likely recognize this pattern in yourself, so its my favorite place to start.

The sixth line is unique in that life unfolds in three distinct phases, depending on your age. Birth to ~30 years will be about exploring & testing options (lives as a line 3), then becomes more aloof and selective in what options that they engage with, reflecting on the first 30 years, choosing to watch others way of living and gaining wisdom. Eventually, (50+ years old) they will come back down off the roof and begin to demonstrate for the world how to operate best.
After you have determined your conscious profile, you can see what the two possible subconscious, or embodied "role", are and which fits you best. Since this is separate from you personality, you may not be sure which second number applies to you. This is where having a input from a close friend, family, or your partner can share what they have observed in you and see which profile aligns.
Once you have your profile, you can plug in different times in your range to connect with the profile you resonate with, and can look to the other main factors like strategy and authority to begin your experiment. You may have to return to this drawing board another time or two (and thus likely have a 3 or 6 in your chart😉), but once you have this information, you can begin to see if this system has value for you, or not.
