There are nights when I find it hard to fall asleep. Tiredness or worries do not allow me to rest properly. On those nights I like to drink Toronjil tea.
Torongil is a beautiful green medicinal plant, with elongated branches, of medium size (50 to 80 cm high) that gives off a pleasant lemon scent when moving, touching, or crushing its leaves. It is very easy to grow because it requires little care. It grows in fertile or dry soil and needs moderate watering.
The plant that is in my garden I grew from a piece of stem (cutting) that I planted in a planter, but it can also be grown from the seeds that the plant itself produces.
I recommend that if you decide to plant it, you do it in a large place because Lemon Balm is a plant that when growing will occupy as much space as possible.
Its scientific name is Lippia alba and its flowers are much visited by bees attracted by the abundant nectar they possess.
How to prepare the Tea?
Ingredients:
- Fresh or dried Toronjil leaves.
- 1 cup of boiling water
Heat the cup of water until it boils, then add the Lemon Balm leaves. Let it boil for a few minutes and then let it stand until the water turns yellow. It is served hot or cold, sweetened with honey, panela or sugar. I like to drink it hot.
Popularly this plant is used to improve sleep, relieve cough, anxiety, depression, headaches, digestive discomfort of nervous origin, among other ailments. It is not recommended to be given to children or taken in excess. In my family we take it to relieve flu co,ngestion, coughs and as a sedative.
