The U.S. Northern Command (USNORTHCOM) produced a press release on Friday January 24, 2025 - titled "Active Duty forces to bolster security at U.S. Southern Border". For those wary of clicking on ".MIL" links and image of the press-release is reproduced below. The units are primarily Military Police and Combat Engineer units from the U.S. Army and Marines. The total number of soliders and Marines are listed at 1,500. For those not familliar with millitary terminology or the composition of military units this is not an expeditionary or invasion force. A U.S. invasion of Mexico is not iminent. My intuition is depending on the short term results of this deployment, infantry units or light cavalry (mechanized) could be sent to the border.
Analysis Contimues below the press release.
Earlier this week President Trump signed an Executive Order titled "Clarifying the Militaary's Role in Protecting the Territorial Integrity of the United States." The text of the order can be viewed at https://www.whitehouse.gov/presidential-actions/2025/01/clarifying-the-militarys-role-in-protecting-the-territorial-integrity-of-the-united-states/
On Tuesday I made a post to Polticalhive.org with my my initial analysis and reactions of Trump's Executive Orders with respect to border security and wrote:
From this Executive Order we can expect Trump to make a concerted effort to deploy military assets at the border.
Recall that President Trump also made a Declaration of a National Emergency at the Southern Border, this was a formal statement that envoked the National Emergencies Act. My initial analysis has been proven correct in short order. Section 3 Implementation of the Exeyctive Order "Clarifying the Militaary's Role in Protecting the Territorial Integrity of the United States" we read:
Sec. 3. Implementation. The Secretary of Defense shall:
(a) No later than 10 days from the effective date of this order, deliver to the President a revision to the Unified Command Plan that assigns United States Northern Command (USNORTHCOM) the mission to seal the borders and maintain the sovereignty, territorial integrity, and security of the United States by repelling forms of invasion including unlawful mass migration, narcotics trafficking, human smuggling and trafficking, and other criminal activities.
Planning is observably moving directly into action. Some Democrat Congressmen may make statements of protest, but this deployment is unlikely to be blocked by a Federal Court injuction. The grounds for the injunction would likely have to be based on a reference to the posse comitatus act. Examining the way NORTHCOM claims the deployed soldiers and Marines will be used is unlikely to trigger a serious challenge. Depending on the results of this deployment, and it perception by the public (you can bet a White House surrogate will be running an opinion poll by Monday at the latest), we should anticipate additional deployments as soon as the logistics and planning are conducted.
Developing.

"Territorial Integrity" that's a phrase we needed to hear more of in the past 4 years... !BBH
Agreed
I would imagine it would have some deterrent effect if it's widely reported.
