It's been a while Foodie Bee Hive friends from around the world. How have you been? I hope you've all been keeping well and cooking to beat the band. I'm back with a nice hearty meal this week. A lot of my dishes to date have been spicy or saucy or both. This week it's just a traditional Irish steak dinner. My wife loves a good wholesome dinner like this, so she was happy out when I served this up.
So there you have it, it's steak night at Chez Ablaze, so now let me take you through the Ingredients and recipe and hopefully you can have a crack at this one yourselves. It's very easy.
Steak dinner with potatoes and seasonal Irish Vegetables
Ingredients
2 medium sized steaks - Siroloin preferred
1 large head of Brocolli
4 large Carrots
1 large onion
10 medium sized mushrooms
Cheddar cheese (or another cheese if you want)
Dash of milk
Knob of butter
Salt and Pepper
STEP 1 - The first thing to do is peel our spuds and vegetables.
STEP 2 - Chop your potatoes and add to a large sauspan of boiling water and leave on a medium heat
STEP 3 - Chop both ends of your peeled carrots and chop them into little sticks. Add them to a pot of boiling water. Heat over a medium heat for 7 minutes.
STEP 4 - Now add your chopped brocolli to the carrots pan and heat for a further 8 minutes or until your carrots and brocolli soften up a little bit.
STEP 5 - By now your spuds should almost be done. Poke them with a shark knife or fork and if it goes in easily, they are ready. Drain the water and put potatoes back in the pot. Add a dash of milk, a knob of butter, and some salt and pepper, and mash them up. Leave them off the heat with a lid or dinner plate on top to keep them warm.
STEP 6 - Take your steaks out of the fridge 30 minutes before cooking. Add a tiny bit of olive oil to the pan and heat a griddle pan to a high heat, until starts to smoke. Sprinkle some black pepper and sea salt over the steaks and add to pan.
For the steaks, I like medium, while my wife likes well done, so I remove my steak when it's medium cooked and wrap in tinfoil and leave aside.
STEP 7 - Now we can get the onions going, which i cooked alongside my wife's steak.
Keep turning the onions regularly until they start going a bit brown, then add the chopped mushrooms to the pan
STEP 8 - Grate some cheddar cheese over your hot potatoes and grill for 1 minute or blast in the microwave. Add your veg, steak, onions and carrots and you're ready to go.
Bon Appetite
And there you have it, Steak dinner with potatoes and seasonal Irish Vegetables ready to go for you and your family.
All that's left to do now is to pour yourself a nice glass of vino tinto which accompanies the beef very well or grab an ice cold glass of Spring water if you prefer and sit down and have a lovely meal with your family.
