Baking New Year's Brezel to welcome 2023 / 新年を迎える準備

How do you spend the new year's eve and the new year's day? Do you have a specific tradition?

Since I moved to Germany, I bake New Year's Brezel on new year’s eve according to my partner's family tradition. I made the 9th one today. We cut it at midnight and make a toast with a glass of sparkling wine.

Today my daughter's friend and her father visited us in the afternoon. Kids made small Brezels and snail shaped breads. We had small ones already together.

大晦日と元旦をどのように過ごしますか?日本では大掃除をして、お節を準備して、報道特集や紅白を見て、年越し蕎麦を食べて・・・懐かしいです。

私はドイツに引っ越してきてから、相方の家の慣習を気に入って、毎年大晦日に年越しのプレッツェルを焼くようになりました。今年で9個目です。真夜中にカットして、スパークリングワインで乾杯して食べます。年越し蕎麦とバッティングするので、年越し蕎麦はお夕飯に食べます。

今日は午後から子供の友人とそのお父さんが遊びに来てくれました。子供たち用に少し生地を余分に作って、子供たちは小さなブレッツェルなど作って遊びました。お土産に持って帰ってもらおうかと思ったら待ちきれず、小さいのはみんなでほぼ食べ切ってしまいました 😅

これまでに作ったものを並べてみると、毎年毎年表情が違って、その年について何か語っているようでおもしろいです。

さてさて、ドイツも2023年まで5時間ちょっと。2023年がいい一年になるといいですね!

Thats a lot of Brezel and to be honest although German, I have never heard of this tradition :-D Here we have „Eiserwaffeln“ as New year. Kind of ice cream cones but without anything inside them. I think your Brezeln are a much more beautiful tradition especially as yours turned out so beautiful.
I am currently reading a borrowed baking book (breadsong) and already made some new breads and a Flammkuchen… I am in baking mood.
