Mac & Cheese is something I have liked for a long time, but never really got around to making. This weekend, I tried out a recipe from Allrecipes one of the best websites around for all kinds of recipes.
From what I know, the last step of the traditional Mac & Cheese recipe calls for the cook to make the dish in a skillet in the oven. Unfortunately, my oven is not big enough for a skillet.. and I don't own a skillet (LOL).
Anyway, I tried out the simple no-bake recipe and absolutely loved it. The recipe didn't mention any garlic, but since I looove garlic so, I fried some in butter and added it to the finished product. I then topped the whole thing with some dried herbs and chilli flakes.
This is the first time in a loooong time that my white sauce did not clump up. What's the secret? Get over your pride and follow the recipe or become an expert before you ditch recipes altogether!
I'm gonna try and make the baked version next time.
On a side note, I add oil when cooking the pasta because it's something my mom taught me to do. Staring at the pot, I just loved how the layer of oil on top of the water created a sort of kaleidoscope effect.
But I guess it looked better with my own eyes that with a camera lens :P
Nice to see that your back!!
Thanks man! great to be back :)
