Hello friends. I wanted to share the recipe of one of my favorite salads with you, which is Prague Salad. The classic Prague salad impresses with its ingenious simplicity, it consists of only fried meat, apples, bell peppers and cucumbers. Yet, it is so hearty that it can easily substitute for dinner. At the same time, the dish is delicious and very nutritious, well-balanced in composition and rich in vitamins.
The Prague salad rightfully serves as a hallmark of Czech cuisine, you can find it on the menu of any restaurant in this European country. Hospitable Czechs have been preparing this dish since medieval times, treating passing travelers with it. It was impossible to resist! Once you've tasted Prague salad, you remain captivated by its flavor forever.
Ingredients
To prepare Prague salad, you will need:
300 grams of beef;
2 large pickled or marinated cucumbers
1 apple;
1 lemon;
1 bell pepper;
100 grams of mayonnaise (Homemade if possible);
20 grams of parsley or dill; (Dill goes really well with mayonnaise.)
Freshly ground black pepper;
Dried herbs, such as oregano, basil, rosemary.
You can prepare Prague salad with two types of meat, such as beef and pork or chicken (150 grams each). I make this salad with chicken for my brother because he loves chicken.
Preparing Prague Salad
Step 1: Cut the beef into small pieces. Transfer them to a pan with hot vegetable oil. Sauté for about 5 minutes over high heat until they turn golden brown.
The taste of the salad depends on how well the meat is cooked. Tough beef chunks or overcooked chicken fillet can irreparably spoil the dish. That's why you should pay special attention to the quality of the meat and its cooking.
Step 2: Finely chop the onion and add it to the beef. Sauté together for another 5-7 minutes.
Step 3: Season the meat with salt and pepper to taste, add spices, and dried herbs. Extract the juice from half of the lemon, then continue cooking for a few additional minutes until it is fully cooked. Allow it to cool.
To make the meat softer and juicier, you can marinate it in soy sauce, yogurt, or mayonnaise in advance (3-4 hours before cooking).
Step 4: Slice the bell pepper into thin strips, removing the seeds beforehand.
Step 5: Cut the cucumbers into small slices.
Step 6: Peel and seed the apple, then cut it into small cubes. To prevent it from browning, immediately sprinkle it with lemon juice.
Step 7: Mix all the ingredients in a bowl add mayonnaise, and finely chopped parsley. There's no need to add salt to the salad.
Optional: You can arrange the finished Prague salad on a flat dish, garnish it with lettuce leaves and herbs. Enjoy!
