How to Make Melon Soup with Amala

Today, I come with a new dimension of a delicious food called Egusi or Melon soup with a swallow food named Amala in Yoruba local language, in English, it is called Yam or Cassava flour. The electricity is presently interrupted to use a blender to blend the pepper so I used a Local Grinding Stone as an alternative which you can see below.

I am going to show you how I make the Yam Flour with a Melon Soup. First and foremost, I will show you how I make Yam Flour; These are what I need to turn the Yam Flour; Clean water, Pot, Grounded yam flour, Turning stick with a packing spoon as shown below.

How to Make a Yam Flour

Place a clean pot on heat and let it boil, after it boils, pour the yam flour gradually inside the hot water, stir it well with a turning stick, cover it for three minutes to cook then start to turn again until you get the desired result. After that, you can now pack it inside a plate or Nylon. Note that, it's not easy to make that many indigenous Yoruba people cannot make it. You have to be conscious when making it for you to acquire proper results.

How to Cook Melon Soup (Egusi)

The cooking is very easy with common ingredients; Grounded melon, Grounded pepper, Palm oil, Maggi, and Salt. You can also add Stock Fish, Beef, Locust beans, and Crayfish to spice it up, It's your choice though.

In this cooking, I am going to use a Local Grinding Stone to grind the pepper as you can see below;

As I said earlier, I could have used a blender to blend the pepper but no Electricity to use the blender, so I decided to go for an alternative. Mind you, while blending the peppers, try to use as a little water as possible so that the blended pepper will not turn out watery. Note that if your blended pepper turns out too watery it will prolong the cooking time of the sauce.

Take a clean pot on heat and heat the palm oil. When it's warm enough, pour the melon mixture into it. Stir it well and allow it to boil for a couple of seconds.

Pour the blended pepper into this mixture and stir thoroughly.

Now it's time to add the boiled fish with its water and cook it for five minutes or more. After the five minutes is up, add the normal seasonings, Maggi with Salt, and stir thoroughly, cover it to cook for two minutes more. You can now put it off the heat.

Can you see that Melon soup is easy to make? Trust me, if you follow these normal and easy procedures, you will find it easy.
