Foodie Series #2: Korean dinner + price hike :(

in Foodies Bee Hive2 years ago

Heyah Foodies!

How are things going for you these days?

You may have noticed some price differences recently, and we all know why (well thanks to pandemic, inflation, wars, and supply chain issues). And as a foodie, this hurts a little because I'd be limited to trying out and supporting local restaurants, especially since current wages do not match up with these price increases. Haaay *deep sigh*

So, what’s all the fuss?

A few weeks ago, my colleagues and I threw a farewell party for our Department Manager, who will now be assigned to a different location. I was overjoyed because they had decided to dine at "Daega Mani-Mogo," a Korean restaurant close to our office. We all enjoyed it because it is an EAT-ALL-YOU-CAN Korean restaurant famous for its delicious samgyupsal and a variety of side dishes to choose from.

My awesome colleagues!

This restaurant holds a special place in my heart because it is my go-to samgyup spot in Cebu. I’ve eaten at least more than 3x here and in other locations too! Haha! That’s why I am so thrilled to dine again in this restaurant because I know it’s going to be worth it.

Two locations that I've tried! :)

However, upon arrival, I noticed in their price signage outside that the price hike is real. My last visit to the restaurant was in December of 2021. Not long ago, but the obvious difference was quite significant.

There is a 7.5 percent price increase between the last time I visited and the most recent visit. That's already a big deal for me, especially if you're eating in groups and saving money. As a foodie, I have no choice but to limit my cravings and dine outside. I just hope this would be over soon. Aside from my personal cravings and food trips many people out there are having a hard time putting food on their table. However, I believe that this is not the only restaurant whose prices have increased. I'm sure you've felt the same way.

But yeah that’s enough for the sad news.

The good news is that the food remains as delicious as ever. Although it's a bit pricier now compared to before, this restaurant remains my top choice for samgyupsal Korean cuisine in Cebu. It's also amazing because they have many branches in Cebu, including Mandaue in the North and the City of Naga in the south.

Unli packages come in two varieties: Unlimited 1 for pork lovers and Unlimited 2 for beef lovers. Unlimited 1 (pork) includes unli samgyup, yangyum samgyup, chicken, and 20 side dishes for 429 pesos (7.81 USD), while Unlimited 2 (beef) includes unli samgyup, yangyum samgyup, beef with 3 flavors, chicken, and 20 side dishes for 479 pesos (8.72 USD). We obviously went with the Unlimited 1 to save money!

Aside from the samgyup, I enjoy how flavorful and juicy the yangyum chicken is! My favorite side dish was the pork bulgogi, as well as the kimchi! It's similar to the one I tried during my trip to Korea. This is by far the best samgyup restaurant I've tried in Cebu.!

Before I forget, the restaurant's service staff was all very accommodating and friendly. My colleagues surprised me with a "happy birthday dance" by the crews during our send-off party, as it was my birthday a few weeks ago. The service crews even performed "budots" (a Cebuano dance craze), TikTok viral dance moves, and served me a delicious kimbap for free! That was so much fun!

The very friendly service crews!

A friendly tip: If you have a friend's birthday, you can ask the service crew to dance for your friend. Try it! Hahaha.

If you asked me if I'd like to visit it again, my answer would be the same... Yes, Daega! Things may be different now, but hopefully everything will go back to normal.

The very satisfied and happy foodie! ME:)

How about you, foodies? Where is your favorite Korean restaurant in your neighborhood? Share it in the comments, and I'd like to try it sometime soon.

That’s all for this week's foodie series! Until my next foodventures!

Stay hungry!

The prices increased in many sectors, I also see that the price of food and everything, in general, went up. Restaurants also increased the prices, but I see that you are satisfied with the visit to that one. It looks delicious, indeed.

Hello @mipiano,I totally agree with you. Hope this would be over soon🙏

We will see, but it doesn't seem very promising.
Well, let's stay optimistic but it is still a mystery how everything will be resolved in the global economy

Yes! Maybe this will be the time I'll try cooking now at home hehe. Thanks for dropping by @mipiano 😊
